ADVANCE REVIEW: The Walking Dead

October 31st, 2010

AMC has a handful of innovative programming, and on this Halloween night they offer up The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead is based on the graphic novels by Robert Kirkman of the same name, and they follow the protagonist Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) after he wakes up (alive) in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. Now you might be saying to yourself “Really? That sounds more like a movie,” and you’d be right. Sparing no minute details, the creative team behind The Walking Dead (in addition to Kirkman) is Frank Darabont, the guy responsible for “The Shawshank Redemption” and Gale Ann Hurd, the woman responsible for “Terminator.” Together they have put together a show that is truly unique. And it even feels like you are watching an hour long movie.

REVIEW: The Vampire Diaries “Masquerade”

October 29th, 2010

E here again for some more Vampire Diaries. Have I told you all lately how much I love The Vampire Diaries? Because I do, I love it. A ridiculous amount.  “Masquerade” proved to be no exception; this was an awesome episode and action packed as always. We start the episode with Caroline telling a little story to Damon and Stefan about how she saw Katherine at the Mystic Grill when she was doing a little stalking of our good friend Matt.  Katherine told Caroline that she wants the moonstone, and the boys better bring it to the Masquerade Ball that evening.  Damon spouts that “Katherine’s not getting dick.” Heh.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Heather Hemmens (Alice) from Hellcats

October 28th, 2010

The CW could put just about anything on its network and I would give it a chance. Hellcats attracted me from the moment I heard cheerleading and college drama. I love Ashley Tisdale and the rest of the cast was strong as well. I think it has only gotten stronger from the pilot and I am so glad it will be coming back for a second season. One of my favorite storylines has been the development of Alice — the co-captain and the squad mean girl, if you will. I recently had the chance to chat with Heather Hemmens, who plays Alice, about why she wanted to play the bitch, how she relates to Alice and what sets Hellcats apart from other dramas.

REVIEW: The Vampire Diaries “Plan B”

October 26th, 2010

Plan B

Hey People, E here with the latest Vampire Diaries recap and review. I know, I know, this is not new news. But I was away for the last few days and didn’t even get to watch the show until yesterday (the horror, for serious). Because this is old news at this point, I have a shorter recap this week because everyone has pretty much already moved on to this week’s upcoming episode. But, I wanted to throw in my 2-cents.

ADVANCE REVIEW: The Rocky Horror Glee Show

October 26th, 2010

Tonight’s episode of Glee is a big one. The Rocky Horror Glee show pays homage to the 1970s cult classic movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and it does so in spectacular fashion. Whenever Glee takes on an artist (or a movie in this case), it can be epic (Madonna and Lady Gaga episodes), great music wise but not so much plot wise (Britney episode) or classic Glee (Beatles episode). The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a beloved movie with a lot of racy scenes, but Glee tackles them with respect. The basic premise of the episode is that Emma (yes she is back for A LOT of this episode!) went to see Rocky Horror with Carl. It was a dirty movie theater and people were throwing things (you know how they do), yet Emma was having so much fun she didn’t even think about her OCD. Side note, this TV Chick went to a screening of Rocky Horror in college where they put a V on my head (for RH virgin) and I danced the time warp in the aisles. It’s all a blur. But I digress. So Will realizes that Emma’s really hitting it off with Carl and decides to put on a production of Rocky Horror with the Glee Club to impress her. He asks Emma to come on as the costume designer, and she’s pretty thrilled. Carl may be helping her, but in my opinion, she really wishes she were with Will. In any case, on with the show!

INTERVIEW: Chord Overstreet (Sam Evans) from Glee

October 25th, 2010

Everybody who reads this site regularly knows of my love of Glee. Week after week (with maybe one or two exceptions in between), it brings amazing musical numbers and drama to life in a way that’s never really been done before on television. Tomorrow is the big Rocky Horror episode which pays homage to the 1970s movie by putting on a production at McKinley High. I have seen it and will be posting an Advance Review tomorrow but for now I will tell you that it is fantastic. One of the more recent additions to the cast is Sam, a new Glee club member and football teammate of Finn and Puck. I actually love his new potential relationship with Quinn, and the maturity he showed about Kurt’s crush in the last episode. I recently had the chance to chat with Chord Overstreet, who plays newcomer Sam Evans. We talked about his duet with Quinn, his tendency to take off his shirt, and he even did some impressions for me.

FIRST LOOK: In Treatment Season 3

October 22nd, 2010

One of my favorite shows is back! In Treatment returns for an all new season next week (October 25th on HBO) with an all new cast of characters. Of course, Dr. Paul Weston (played by the amazing Gabriel Byrne) is back but he has a new therapist (played by the incredibly versatile and multi-talented Amy Ryan) and a new patient in veteran actress Debra Winger as well as some newcomers. There is nothing like this show on TV, and it is truly worth watching. This is the first season that isn’t adapted from the Israeli version (that one only had two seasons), so I am curious to see what happens. This much I know for sure, I will be wishing I could sit on Dr. Weston’s couch. Check out a new trailer and a 30 second promo for the upcoming season below!

INTERVIEW: Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson (Executive Producers) of The Vampire Diaries

October 21st, 2010

It’s clearly The Vampire Diaries week here at The TV Chick. I have sung the show’s praises time and time again, and I stand by my assertion that it’s one of the best shows out there. Week after week, there are these amazing moments where I am left with my mouth agape at the screen. These magical twists are all the work of the brilliant executive producers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson. They are not afraid to kill off characters, turn others into vampires and werewolves, and even introduce a doppelganger. I recently had the chance to chat with both of them at New York Comic Con. They gave a big teaser about the flashback episodes coming up, talked about the decision to turn Caroline into a vampire, and Katherine’s master plan.
