SAG Award Winners (Television) & My Thoughts

January 31st, 2011

sag-awards2

The SAG Awards were held last night and unlike some of the bigger awards shows, this one doesn’t have a host. I actually really liked this as well as the “I am an actor” personal testimonies from some of the actors there. The SAG awards can often be seen as a predictor of who may win the Oscars because the members of the screen actors guild vote for the Oscars as well. But it’s not just all about movies — there are a bunch of TV show categories as well, and I was excited by some of the winners. Read on for a list of winners and my thoughts!

REVIEW: The Vampire Diaries “The Descent”

January 28th, 2011

descent

Woo Hoo! The Vampire Diaries is finally back after a long winter hiatus! This episode, titled “The Descent,” definitley made me feel some sadness in my sad place.

We open with Jules doing a walk of (not-so) shame to the camping site where she killed a mess of folks the night before while all wolf like.  She starts to pile them up to burn them when a policeman comes by.  She fakes that she’s bummed and that her friends were killed by an animal, but then she totally smacks him in the head and kills him.  Note to self: Jules is not even a sort of good guy.

FROM THE SET: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Sara Canning (Jenna) from The Vampire Diaries

January 28th, 2011

Picture 12

The Vampire Diaries returned last night and I am so glad it’s back. One of the things I love so much about this show is that despite the fact that there is a big cast, each person serves a purpose. Whether that purpose is to be unaware of their surroundings (poor Matt and Aunt Jenna!), save the day and protect the town (hello, Salvatore brothers) or form dangerous bonds (Caroline and Tyler). It’s a big cast so not everyone gets in on the action all the time, but I enjoy it when they do. One of the craziest moments on the show so far (and there have been a lot) was when Katherine compelled Aunt Jenna to stab herself. Katherine made it clear that no one is safe from her wrath, and it really upped the stakes (no pun intended). When I sat down with Sara Canning (who plays Jenna) on the set of the show, she had a lot to say about the purpose Jenna serves in this crazy town of Mystic Falls, Jenna’s “parental” role, and her relationship with Alaric.

FROM THE SET: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Matt Davis (Alaric) from The Vampire Diaries

January 28th, 2011

Last night, The Vampire Diaries made its triumphant return. I am so glad it’s back, as heartbreaking as “The Descent” was. It left a lot of questions in my mind: we know vampires can control dreams but did we know Damon was capable, was Jules holding out and there is a way to cure vampire bites, and where the heck is Isobel? Alaric was back in last night’s episode, getting into the mix a little bit by helping Stefan (possibly) contact Isobel. Instead, Uncle John returns and we have no idea what he wants. I recently had the chance to visit the set of the show in Atlanta, where I spoke with Matt Davis (who plays Alaric). He talked about what he wants to see from Alaric going forward, his relationship with Jenna, and whether he might team up with the vampires.

FROM THE SET: INTERVIEW: Julie Plec (Creator/Executive Producer) of The Vampire Diaries

January 27th, 2011

Tonight’s the night! The Vampire Diaries is back on television and I’m ridiculously excited for it. From the promos, “The Descent” looks like there will be some vampire/werewolf clashes and I can’t wait. When I visited the set in Atlanta, I was thrilled to be able to catch up with the lovely Julie Plec, one of the executive producers of the show. If there’s anyone that knows about navigating the twists and turns every week in Mystic Falls, it’s her. Julie talked about the ever expanding mythology of the show, the role reversal between Damon and Stefan, Klaus, future flashbacks and so much more. She even told us that there will be a game-changer moment this season.

FROM THE SET: INTERVIEW: Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore) from The Vampire Diaries

January 27th, 2011

It’s back!! The Vampire Diaries is finally back tonight after what felt like forever. Tonight’s episode “The Descent” picks up after Tyler’s werewolf transformation and Rose’s (Damon’s new special “friend”) werewolf bite. Eventually we will get to meet Klaus (the Original that everyone is dying to see) and a new sexy journalist special friend for Damon. I recently had the chance to visit the set of The Vampire Diaries in Atlanta. Ian Somerhalder was a busy busy vampire that day but we talked about the new softer side of Damon, what he wants to see from the Elena/Damon relationship and how Damon has changed since episode one.

FROM THE SET: EXCLUSIVE VIDEO INTERVIEW: Candice Accola (Caroline Forbes) from The Vampire Diaries

January 26th, 2011

One more day! One more day! One more day until a brand new episode of The Vampire Diaries! Season 2 has been fantastic so far and I can’t wait to see what happens with the moonstone, how the Stefan/Elena/Damon situation works out and what trouble Luka and his dad are going to bring. One of my favorite parts of this season has been Caroline’s transition into a vampire. She was turned by Katherine at the end of season one in what was an enormous game changer for the show. But it was an absolutely brilliant one. After Damon almost killed her, Stefan took her under his wing to teach her all the ways to be a good vampire (if you can actually use those two words in the same sentence). Caroline went from being a smaller part of the show to a really wonderful big part of the action.

REVIEW: Pretty Little Liars “Careful What U Wish 4″

January 25th, 2011

PRETTY-LITTLE-LIARS-Careful-What-U-Wish-4

Last night’s Pretty Little Liars titled “Careful What U Wish 4″ featured A making the girls do some pretty horrible things. But what else is new right? It wasn’t my favorite episode ever, but I love everything Pretty Little Liars, so it did not disappoint. I think just coming off such an amazing episode last week, I was hoping for more of the girls teaming up to figure out who A is. That said, there were a few fantastic moments which I will touch upon later. The episode starts off with a very close call. Emily wants to turn the Alison/Ian video into the police, and Ian almost sees his face several times. I kind of think that he did see the video given what transpires later on.

REALITY CORNER: The Bachelor Recap – Week 4

January 25th, 2011

BRAD WOMACK, MICHAEL "PSYCHO MIKE" CATHERWOOD, DR. DREW PINSKY

Lindsay is back for some more The Bachelor action! Here’s her recap of last night’s episode: We begin last night’s episode with a fantastic turn of events – Michelle* wakes up with a mysterious black eye! And not surprisingly, she reminds us of it six times in the first 60 seconds of the show. Yes, I counted.

On the initial one-on-one, Brad and Chantal get picked up in a helicopter, which is actually pretty standard procedure as far as first dates go. They jet off to spend the day on a boat in Catalina Island, and while nothing particularly eventful happens on the date, they do seem to be comfortable and into each other.

FROM THE SET: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Kat Graham (Bonnie) from The Vampire Diaries

January 25th, 2011

This week is all about The Vampire Diaries on The TV Chick. The show is returning this Thursday, and I’m confident it will be fantastic. The show ended on a very interesting note with Elena making a deal with Elijah to free Stefan, and the two of them presumably reuniting. But Elena isn’t the only one with romantic issues, so to speak. Bonnie is involved in a bit of a love triangle with newcomer Luka (who is bad news) and Jeremy. Luka led Bonnie to believe that they rid the moonstone of its curse, but he and his father are up to something. Jeremy is pining after Bonnie and trying to prove himself as someone who can go toe to toe with the big guys (aka the vampires). I recently had the chance to visit the set of The Vampire Diaries in Atlanta, where I chatted with Kat Graham (who plays Bonnie) about Bonnie’s love life, having her own music on the show, and the challenge of playing a witch.
