EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Troian Bellisario (Spencer Hastings) from Pretty Little Liars

January 17th, 2011

troian

Tonight is an all new episode of Pretty Little Liars and you know what that means: more drama, more twists and turns, and more of that pesky A. Last week’s episode gave us a peak into the lives of Toby and Jenna, Hanna’s family life, Aria’s love life and the aftermath of Spencer’s sister getting married. I recently had the chance to catch up with Troian Bellisario, who plays Spencer. She said we can expect to find out more about what happened the night A went missing and promised more cracks in Spencer’s perfection.

ADVANCE REVIEW: Being Human Series Premiere “There Goes The Neighborhood Part 1″

January 17th, 2011

beinghuman

So a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost all live together in this house… Hold on, I’ll back up. Being Human 2011 premieres tonight on Syfy and it is based on the British series of the same name (Being Human, not the 2011 part). The aforementioned concept is quirky and unusual, but it really works. The American version stars Sam Witwer (from “Battlestar Gallactica” and “Smallville”) as Aidan, the badass vampire who is attempting to reform his ways but still dabbles on the wild side. Let me tell you, Sam Witwer is one sexy sexy vampire. I can’t say he puts the Salvatore brothers to shame but he could go head to head with them. Meaghan Rath stars as Sally, the sassy ghost who isn’t quite sure how she died or how to control her ghost-dom, so to speak. And then there’s Sam Huntington (“Superman Returns”) who plays Josh, the downtrodden werewolf who can’t quite accept who he is. Hey, it’s hard being a werewolf. In any case, these three unlikely friends come together to become roommates (perhaps one of them not so intentionally) and the results are hilarious, heartfelt and quite interesting.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Ashley Benson (Hanna Marin) From Pretty Little Liars

January 11th, 2011

Ashley Benson

Pretty Little Liars is off to a fantastic start. Last night’s episode was a big one for Hanna when she discovered her mom’s pool of money she had stolen from the bank. Not even hours later, Mona throws Hanna a big bash which doesn’t end so well, and somehow the money is gone. But not without a cryptic message from A, who tells Hanna she’ll get the money back if she does what she says. Oh A and your evil ways. I recently had the chance to catch up with Ashley Benson, who plays Hanna. She had a lot to say about Hanna’s big emotional journey, her new custom fat suit (to play Hefty Hanna) and what A. has in store for her next.

INTERVIEW: Nia Peeples (Pam Fields) from Pretty Little Liars

January 10th, 2011

Nia Peeples

The mid-season premiere of Pretty Little Liars featured Emily coming out to her parents. Her friends know and love her for who she is, but her parents aren’t so quick to accept her sexuality. I think it’s very important to have this storyline on television because it gives teenagers something to relate to — whether they are questioning their own sexuality or they have a friend who is doing so. Emily’s dad’s reaction was a bit softer than her mom’s, and it’s clear that her mom is really struggling to accept this news. In tonight’s episode, there is a Fields family dinner with Maya, where we get an even clearer picture of how Emily’s mom feels about everything. I recently had the chance to talk to Nia Peeples, who plays Pam Fields. She is quite different from Pam and has a lot to say about what’s coming up for her character and how Pam is really exploring who she is as a mother. In the books, there’s an interesting turn of events with Emily and her family, but Nia Peeples was told not to read them.

ADVANCE REVIEW: Pretty Little Liars “Salt Meets Wound”

January 10th, 2011

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS Episode 12

After the mid-season premiere of Pretty Little Liars, we know that Emily has come out to her parents, Aria has admitted to the girls who she’s dating, Hanna had a falling out with Lucas and a visit from A, and Spencer’s sister got married unexpectedly. So it’s no surprise that a lot happens in the second episode as well. “Salt Meets Wound” deals a lot with the aftermath of Emily coming out. Both of her parents struggle to accept this, each in very different ways. Surprisingly, her tough military dad seems more okay with it than her mom. There’s also some extremely awkward moments between Maya and Emily’s family when Maya is invited over to dinner. Emily is hoping this will put her parents more at ease, but you’ll just have to watch to find out what happens.

The Vampire Diaries: Best Moments of The Series (so far)

January 7th, 2011

TVD title card

I love The Vampire Diaries, and even though it will be back on TV with new episodes in a few weeks, I am in seriously withdrawal. So I asked my partner in TV crime, Vampire enthusiast and weekly reviewer of the show for The TV Chick, E, to help me compose a list of some of the best moments of the show. Her focus is mainly on season one, and mine is focused on season 2. There are so many wonderful moments on this show, that it was hard to narrow the list down. But I hope you enjoy! And weigh in with your favorite Vampire Diaries moments as well.

ADVANCE REVIEW: Shameless “Pilot”

January 7th, 2011

shameless800x600

This Sunday night, Showtime is unveiling a big (and mostly new) Sunday night lineup. To go along with this, they are offering a free preview weekend nationwide so you can check out the new shows. The two new shows I speak of are Episodes (starring Matt LeBlanc of “Friends” fame) and Shameless. I enjoyed Episodes quite a bit, but Shameless truly stood out to me. It is based on the British series of the same name, but set in the gritty side of Chicago. It stars William H. Macy as the drunken patriarch no-good father of six kids. He’s supposed to be raising the kids of course but is often found passed out in an alley or being carted home by the police. His eldest daughter Fiona (played by the absolutely phenomenal Emmy Rossum) is forced to raise them.
