Why You Should Be Watching MTV’S AWKWARD

August 16th, 2011

I love television. I watch a ton of it. I write about it. I can’t get enough of it. Of course, there are those shows that I just adore so much that I choose to review every week. And then there are those I want to enjoy without taking notes that I try to cover as much as I can. But only a few times have I watched a show and been compelled to write about it right away. Watching Awkward was one of those moments. I saw all the ads and put it on my to-do list to check out at some point, as I generally eat up the teen angst. It’s my thing. But this weekend, I finally played catch-up on the four episodes that aired and after each one, I needed more. I couldn’t even wait a minute to move on to the next episode.

ADVANCE REVIEW: Series Premiere of The Lying Game

August 15th, 2011

By now, I’m pretty sure most of you know my love for ABC Family. This summer has been an especially good one for the network with the return of one of my favorites, Pretty Little Liars and the welcome addition of Switched at Birth and The Nine Lives of Chloe King. And now, to fill Switched At Birth’s recently vacant time slot, comes The Lying Game. Based on the novel by Sara Shepard (same author of the Pretty Little Liars books), The Lying Game centers around Emma Beckett and Sutton Foster, two twin sisters who found each other online. Emma is living in a foster home with a creepy brother who wants to get with her and a crappy mother who doesn’t seem to pick up on this. Sutton has it all — a loving family, money and popularity. But not all is what it seems on the surface. She may have the boyfriend and the best friends but is she happy?

REVIEW: Pretty Little Liars “Make It Stick”

August 10th, 2011

;

Last night’s episode of Pretty Little Liars was probably one of the most intense ones to date. Also, it was filled with A LOT of making out. Saying I loved it would be a vast understatement. Seriously, be still my “Ezria” loving heart. But I digress. “Make It Stick” featured some disturbing discoveries about Jason, some interesting/sexy dreams, relationship complications for Emily and some heartbreaking Hanna and Caleb moments. Oh and even though creepy Jenna was just in a couple of scenes, she was truly and awfully creepy.

This season of Chloe King is shaping up to be a big one. Will others find out Chloe’s secret? Will she be able to choose between Brian and Alek? And what’s going to happen with her best friends, the super quirky, loyal and lovely Amy and Paul, the fiercely loyal sidekick? I recently caught up with Grace Phipps and Ki Hong Lee (who play the aforementioned Amy and Paul) at Comic Con, and we chatted about their friendship with Chloe, super powers and their favorite scenes.

REVIEW: Pretty Little Liars “Save The Date”

August 3rd, 2011

PRETTY-LITTLE-LIARS-Save-The-Date-12

Last night’s episode of Pretty Little Liars “Save the Date” was quite intense. The girls took a trip to the morgue to try and figure out Ali’s death, Em has quite a physical/health set back and we learn more about shady Garrett and creepy Jenna and what they might be hiding. And I forgot to mention that “Ezria” fans like me were a tad disappointed by this episode, and especially by the preview for the next episode, but I have faith that they will be together in the end. This episode felt to me like people were trying to get closure — Hanna’s parents for sure (more on that later) and the girls about Ali’s death. But one thing is for sure, this season is certainly ramping up to something big.

INTERVIEW: Amy Pietz (Meredith King) from The Nine Lives of Chloe King

August 2nd, 2011

The new show The Nine Lives of Chloe King is really heating up and tonight there is an all-new episode. Will Chloe learn from being too trusting? What will the aftermath of her kiss with Alek be? And she’s obviously still in love with Brian, but can she stay away? Another big question that has been a theme throughout the season is whether or not Chloe’s mom will ever find out the truth. I recently had the chance to chat with Amy Pietz, who plays Meredith King (Chloe’s mom) about that possibility, what attracted her to the role, and Chloe’s dad coming back into the picture.

INTERVIEW: Alyssa Diaz (Jasmine) from The Nine Lives of Chloe King

August 1st, 2011

ABC Family is one of my favorite networks, especially for great summer shows. The Nine Lives of Chloe King is no exception. I have really been enjoying its freshman season so far. All of the drama plus the supernatural elements plus plenty of complicated teen angst has gotten me hooked. I recently had the chance to sit down with the cast at Comic Con about the rest of the season. Alyssa Diaz, who plays Jasmine, talked about doing her own stunts, Jasmine’s relationship with her mother, and how her relationship with Chloe is going to change and grow.
