REVIEW: The Vampire Diaries “The Reckoning”

October 14th, 2011

The Reckoning

E back again for another episode of The Vampire Diaries – this time with “The Reckoning.” I love me a good reckoning.

We start with an empty school and some clanging. Oh, hey Matt. It’s just Matt lifting some weights in a dark room alone like a weirdo. He hears someone so he goes on an expedition like Lewis and Clark minus the Clark (he’s more of a Lewis). Dun Dun Dun…it’s just Elena and the rest of the gang setting some mousetraps in a classroom. It’s senior prank night so they’re getting their fun on Mystic Falls High Style. (Did this remind anyone else of how Buffy would try her darnedest to have a normal life amongst the madness?) Elena decides to go superglue Alaric’s desk chair, and she has a run in with Klaus. (This is why I love TVD – on most other shows we’d have to wait half the dang episode to get these crazy kids together).

REVIEW: The Secret Circle “Heather”

October 7th, 2011

Heather

Does everyone remember when Vampire Diaries first started and it took a few episodes to start getting good? Well, I think Secret Circle overcame that hurdle tonight. Episode four, “Heather”, was AWESOME. Also, terrifying. Seriously, I had to cover my eyes for a good portion of the last third of the episode.

REVIEW: The Vampire Diaries “Disturbing Behavior”

October 7th, 2011

Disturbing Behavior

E’s back again for some more Vampire Diaries with “Disturbing Behavior.” And boy howdy was there.

We start back in Chicago again with Klaus, Stefan, and Rebekah out for a Pretty Woman style shopping spree complete with champagne and Rebekah modeling her new duds for the boys. She complains about the skankitude level of woman’s cloths in the 21st century, and Klaus reminds her that she wore pants so modern ladies could wear skirts up to their pupik (in case you are not my Jewish grandmother reading this, pupik = bellybutton in Yiddish). Stefan looks outside the shop and Katherine is standing across the street and gives him this cool head nod to come over there that I couldn’t pull off in a thousand years.

ADVANCE REVIEW: Series Premiere of American Horror Story

October 5th, 2011

2011-08-22-american_horror_story-2

I’ve heard generally negative reviews of American Horror Story, the new FX offering the creative minds behind Glee (Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Dante DiLoreto). So I was very hesitant when I popped in my screener. Also, I scare rather easily so that was another hesitation. But I actually enjoyed it. There was a ton of creepy stuff and some gross heads in jars and some very bizarre camera movements and storylines (I generally focus a lot on the visuals because I work in television), but overall, it intrigued me. I am curious to see more. And that is a sign of a television show I can get invested in.

ADVANCE REVIEW: Glee “Asian F”

Glee is back! And I don’t mean that it’s simply back on TV, but I firmly believe that the show is back to what I fell in love with. “Asian F” has a fantastic Mike Chang storyline, a Mercedes story that was good (but I think she deserves consistency, more on that later), and some really fantastic musical numbers. Oh, and they cast West Side Story! But I won’t be spoiling that for everyone. Seriously though, even though I think I enjoyed “I Am Unicorn” slightly more than “Asian F” (I’m sorry, nothing can beat Idina Menzel and Lea Michele singing “Somewhere”), Glee very clearly wants to get back to basics and win the doubters back. For the record, I never lost faith in the show, but I am very glad it is showing signs of greatness this season.
