ADVANCE REVIEW: Life Unexpected “Rent Uncollected”

I hope you have all enjoyed the first couple episodes of Life Unexpected. I know I certainly have, and it just gets better. Tonight’s episode, called “Rent Uncollected,” centers around each character’s families. Baze tells his parents about Lux, and they insist on having her over for dinner along with Cate. Much to Cate’s dismay, her mom (played by the wonderful Cynthia Stevenson) and sister (guest star Alex Breckinridge) show up to dinner. Baze’s family is quite stuck up and awful, and Cate’s family is overbearing and neurotic. The dinner scene was one of Kris Polaha’s favorite moments from filming the show, as he said in my interview with him. It is an incredibly poignant scene that results in some storming out.

In addition, Cate hears about a gang fight at Lux’s school and takes it upon herself to enroll Lux at her and Baze’s alma mater, Westmonte. This is where we get to see a little more of Lux’s family. She explains that one of her friends only goes to school because she’s there with her and she has no desire to go to Westmonte, even if her current school isn’t exactly ideal. This episode also touches on the issue of trust. We learn more about Lux’s friends as well as her desires. She needs to learn to trust Cate and Baze, but it’s certainly not going to happen overnight. They need to learn to make decisions and discuss issues together. This episode ends with a very different kind of family dinner. You’ll have to watch to see what I mean. I absolutely adored this episode, and I can’t get enough of this show. It is truly wonderful. Last episode, as Liz Tigelaar promised, there was a theme song called Beautiful Tree (sung by Rain Perry), and I thought it was a perfect fit. I can’t wait to see what’s coming up in the rest of the season.

Be sure to tune in tonight for Life Unexpected “Rent Uncollected” at 9 pm on the CW.
