ADVANCE REVIEW: Spring Premiere of Make It Or Break It “The New Normal” & Video Preview
March 28th, 2011 by thetvchick
The Rock girls are back! After what seemed like a super long hiatus, Make It Or Break It is back for some post-world trial action. “The New Normal” picks up not too long after the competition where things go awry for most of the girls. Kaylie is at an eating disorder clinic, where she befriends Maeve, who seemingly understands her. Maeve is a model and has had numerous stints in rehab. She also relates to Kaylie’s need to be thin for her “job.” Kaylie isn’t so quick to admit she needs help though. She’s in denial even at the clinic. She tries to explain that a regimented diet is necessary for any professional athlete but they aren’t buying it. Payson is struggling without the help of her beloved coach Sasha, and all the girls are wondering where he went and if he’s ever coming back. But Payson may have someone else pining for her affection. Lauren is up to her old ways but is relying on Summer after her mother’s death, which is interesting. And Emily…poor Emily. The team attends a rally in Denver to promote their bid for the 2018 Olympics, and she has to wear an ankle monitoring bracelet which leads to an embarrassing moment.
I don’t want to spoil too much, but there is a new face in the gym (new guy, Max, will end up breaking some hearts I’m sure), some loose ends (Austin and Kaylie will have a heart to heart) and some fierce competition from Kelly Parker and other gymnasts that may have decided to leave The Rock to compete for Denver Elite. And I can say that the premiere was really fantastic. I love this show (obviously, I’ve been writing about it for some time), but my favorite episodes are focused on the girls, their gymnastics and their lives. Not necessarily who kissed someone else’s boyfriend but when we get to the heart of the matter. In the premiere, we learn why Emily is vulnerable, and delve into why Payson lacks self confidence even when she’s been National Champion. I have a feeling this season is going to have some great stuff. Kaylie is going to need to admit she has a problem, Emily needs to catch a break, Lauren seriously needs a reality check. Also, I hope Payson gets a new love interest (one that won’t give her cortisone). I would love to see Sasha return right away as the coach at The Rock but I don’t think it will happen as fast as I want it to. Whatever the case may be, I am so glad Make It Or Break It is back! I can’t wait for more competitions, drama and some great gymnastics.
Here is a little video clip to tide you over until tonight:
Be sure to tune in tonight at 9 pm to ABC Family for the big spring premiere of Make It Or Break It! And check back tomorrow for an Exclusive Interview with Josie Loren, who plays Kaylie!

Poor Kaylie, she’s really stuck in a position with so many forces pulling her in different directions. Hopefully Austin is right, and they won’t let her out of rehab until she’s better, or she won’t figure out a way to con herself out of there while still having a problem. That whole scene at the end with Austin was so good ( http://vimeo.com/22309560 )…sometimes Kaylie can be frustrating, but I do hope they end up together.
Also, I loved that song from the scene, “Fall Face First, Hit Rock Bottom” by Pablo Sebastian…what a great lyric that really sums up where Kaylie’s at right now.
