Flash Forward is centered around the question: what if we all got a glimpse into our future? FBI agents Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes from Shakespeare in Love) and his partner, Demetri Noh (John Cho, from the Harold and Kumar series) are on a routine car chase communicating with their boss, Stanford Wedeck (Courtney B. Vance from Law & Order: Criminal Intent). Mark’s wife, Dr. Olivia Benford (Sonya Walger, “Lost”), is in the midst of performing surgery. Dr. Bryce Varley is about to make a life-changing decision. Mark’s friend Aaron is working on power lines. And Nicole, who is babysitting for Mark and Olivia’s daughter, is getting hot and heavy with her boyfriend…when every person on Earth blacks out for two minutes and seventeen seconds and sees glimpses from their future, taking place on the date April 29, 2010.

Each person sees a different vision–some great, some interesting, some are pieces of a puzzle. As the nation recovers from this flash forward, Mark, Demetri, Stanford and his team form a website (the Mosaic Collective), for everyone around the world to share what they saw. Seeing the future raises important questions about destiny, fate, and the ability to change the future or if it’s set in stone.

This pilot reminded me of LOST. It was unique and crazy and action-packed. I have so many questions, which means Flash Forward left me wanting more. For example, is April 29th, 2010 the date of the season finale? In any case, the cast is wonderful, and I really can’t wait to see how the season unfolds.

Flash Forward premieres tonight at 8 pm on ABC. In the meantime, you can check out The Mosaic Collective, where you can put answer the question “what did you see?” I give kudos to ABC for this clever marketing campaign.

Continuing my look at the fall season’s new shows, here are my thoughts on Modern Family.

Modern Family is the story of three families–a newly married middle aged man, and his much younger wife (and son), a gay couple who just adopted a baby, and a married couple with three children. It is shot in an “unseen” documentary style (so think The Office, family edition), to show each family’s trials and tribulations (and successes too). The show is full of funny and heartwarming moments, and while the documentary style could be overdone, it is unobtrusive and works well. The show addresses the issues of age difference in relationships, growing up, and challenges of gay and straight couples. And they do all of this in a very charming way. It stars veteran tv actor Ed O’Neill who plays Jay (married to the younger woman) and Julie Bowen (Boston Legal) is one half of the other married couple.

Modern Family is definitely a must watch this fall. I can’t wait to see how each family’s future unfolds. It is created by Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan (creator of Just Shoot Me). Be sure to catch the premiere, Wednesday, September 23rd at 9 pm on ABC.
