INTERVIEW: Lyndsy Fonseca (Alex) from Nikita
September 30th, 2011 by thetvchick
Nikita returned last week and I’m excited it’s back! What’s to come for Nikita, Michael, Alex and the rest of the fractured Division? I can’t wait to see what happens. I recently had the chance to chat with Lyndsy Fonseca (who plays Alex — one of my favorite characters) at Comic Con. She talked about Alex’s love life, her relationship with Amanda and what we can expect from the upcoming season.
What can we expect from Alex’s love life this season?
It’s definitely not the first thing on her mind right now. She’s kind of like woman on a mission. She’s really matured a lot and I think Alex really needs some answers right now and she wants to find the man who ordered her father’s death and go there. There’s a man that comes in and she really doesn’t care for him at the moment, but I think eventually they’ll like each other. (laughs)
Are we going to see Alex interact with Amanda at all?
Oh my gosh, yes. There’s lots of Alex/Amanda stuff coming up. I’m excited.
Can you tease anything about that?
Well, Amanda kind of has a new role this year and Alex is kind of like a private contractor. She’s in charge of herself but she needs Division’s help for a few things. Because of that, she has to interact with Amanda. And I really like it. They have a interesting, complicated relationship, to say the least.
Is Amanda still mentoring Alex in a way?
You know, I think so, but it’s a little bit more harsh. You’re your own person, here’s what I can do for you, here’s what you can do for me. And I think Alex just doesn’t know if she can trust Amanda yet. She’s kind of testing her out.
Well, Amanda killed her –
To let her go free, but it just depends on which way you look at it.
What was it like working with the younger Alex? Are we going to see any more of her?
I don’t know. I could be wrong but I feel like right now, Alex is a little bit more in the future. She’s a little bit more in the present. Any flashbacks, I feel like they’ll be on Nikita’s end, diving into her backstory.
Can we expect to see Alex and Nikita interact even though they are on very different paths right now?
Yeah. We run into each other a little bit.
Is Alex trying to avoid her future self that she saw?
When I played Alexandra, the future self, Craig and I both wanted to make sure she wasn’t a completely different person. We wanted to make sure that it was just an older version of the same person, not like this is another character. So, if that’s a possibility of where she could be in a few years, we need to slowly get there. And that’s a possibility. That future Alex could be season five and how does she get to that place?
What are you looking forward to exploring about Alex this season?
I’m totally terrified because she’s really on her own for the first time. There’s no hiding behind Nikita’s shadow. There’s no mother figure there anymore or mentor of any kind. So she’s really on her own and it’s really exciting for me as an actor because I feel like the first season we really did a lot of her vulnerability. We really handled all the trauma that happened in her life and I feel like this season, we’re getting into her strength, so because of that I’m a bit terrified, but also excited.
Should we expect to see any more Division agents working with Alex?
I think Division itself has changed in that we’re not going to deal with recruits anymore. They still exist in Division but that’s not where the storylines are going. There’s no recruits and not even so much agency agents. Things have changed there, because of the damage that Percy has done, so what Alex does is pretty much communicate with Amanda, they use each other to get what they need, so to speak.
Be sure to tune in tonight at 8 PM to the CW for an all-new episode of Nikita!
