REVIEW: Make It Or Break It “It Takes Two”

Last night’s Make It Or Break it was very intriguing and set some more interesting things up for the season. The National Team coach decides to pair the girls up to mix it up and encourage a team mentality. However, the pairings are interesting. Lauren is still struggling with her dizzy spells but hasn’t admitted it to anyone yet. We also met a new cute guy, which is always fun. And he’s interested in Payson!

So, onto the pairings. Wild Card Jordan gets paired with Wendy (seriously, I am still loving Amanda Leighton, she is hilarious!) Lauren gets paired with Payson and Kaylie gets paired with KP. Lauren and Payson is an interesting match-up because they aren’t super close. The girls have to switch their roommates and live/breathe life with their partners. They also have to make up a one minute floor routine for their partners that showcases the partner’s abilities.

Lauren decides Payson needs cheering up in order to work well on her floor routine so she attempts to set her up with a random guy she finds at the USATC. But things go awry as they tend to do and instead, a BMX biker guy (who Lauren had enjoyed making fun of earlier) shows up to the set up date with Payson. Thankfully, they have an amazing time. But of course Payson finds out and gets all ‘Poopy’ Payson (Lauren’s words, not mine). But in the end, they make up (because Payson had such a great time) and their floor routines for each other are a big success.

There isn’t as much success with the other big pairing though. Kaylie makes a routine for KP that is too difficult for her. But KP wants desperately to become friends with Kaylie and for Kaylie to trust her again (she even buys them matching leos) that she doesn’t ask for help or admit she can’t do some of the skills. So when it comes time to do the routines, KP doesn’t nail it and Kaylie makes up a bunch of new, harder stuff for her own routine to overcompensate. In the end, the coach tells them they need to learn to trust each other and step up their game. They make up and decide to stick together. I really like KP and I want to trust her. I think she has turned over a new leaf but it’s always hard to tell with these girls. And the other pair works out okay. In the end, Jordan decides to trust Wendy’s routine. While they aren’t exactly friends yet, it might be the beginning of a nice alliance.

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode, especially the gymnastics. The show has definitely upped their skill level and I’m glad about that. I like the new guy in Payson’s life. And I also enjoy that KP is probably going to be a pretty big part of the show. I kind of want to know already what is wrong with Lauren, but I guess I am just impatient. I’d also love to see maybe a mini competition with the girls like they used to do at The Rock. At this point, I think all three Rock girls will make the Olympic team (it is an ABC Family show, after all) but most likely not without a lot of challenges to overcome. I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Make It Or Break It airs Monday nights at 9 PM on ABC Family.
