REVIEW: Life Unexpected “Plumber Cracked”

Plumber Cracked

As you all know by now, I am in love with Life Unexpected. I am very sad it’s ending soon, but I will support it until the very last episode. I would say the theme of last night’s episode “Plumber Cracked” is honesty, or lack thereof. Cate trying to get the dirt from Page about Julia. But she stays loyal to her brother and tells Cate to ask Ryan himself. Emma and Baze get hot and heavy in the car. Supposedly she has to go because a pipe burst, but I think there’s something else going on there. Lux and Cate set up Tasha in her apartment, but this is all a front for Lux so she and hot teacher can hang out/make out.

Ryan and Cate go to couples counseling, and the therapist wants them to be honest about everything together. This might be hard for the couple who kept things from each other for so long. Ryan decides he needs a guy’s night. According to Liz Tigelaar who I had the lovely pleasure of meeting up with recently, this “guy’s night” thing is totally Kerr Smith being Kerr Smith, and that he’s not like Ryan at all. I think that’s kind of awesome. Of course, it would not be guy’s night if things didn’t get ruined by a girl. More on that later.

Meanwhile, Baze calls Emma to go out on their date and a guy says she’s in the shower. Oooh! I kind of called that she had a son, but it was still shocking when we find out later. Baze shows up at Emma’s apartment accusing her of seeing someone else. She’s a bit pissed he showed up, and doesn’t want to tell him everything about her life. I like that Emma is sort of hard to get for Baze. He usually has girls going after him so it’s a nice change of pace.

Lux and hot teacher are on their date on an island off the coast of Portland. He lost his wallet, and they stumble upon a wedding and they crash it. This is such a great moment and it seems like something Lux would totally do. Of course, Lux and hot teacher miss the water taxi back to Portland. Lux calls Tasha to give her the credit card Cate set her up with so they can stay at a hotel. Lux, you are beginning to be a slightly bad person. I think if you had just figured out someone who could give you a ride, this would all be okay. They end up staying at the hotel, and hot teacher and Lux lie next to each other on a bed, not doing anything. He admits that he thinks they don’t have a future together. Aw. But I love you guys together. Nooo! Even though I get that it’s wrong. He doesn’t want to break her heart. This relationship may be quite taboo but I was sad about this speech.

Of course, Cate can’t drop the Julia thing and she is looking through Ryan’s email. She tries to bribe Page but it doesn’t work. Cate then claims she wants to go out for drinks to learn more about each other. Haha she wants to get Page drunk so she’ll spill about Julia. However, it isn’t Page who gets super drunk, it’s Cate. And she definitely ends up on the bar dancing in a cowboy hat. AWESOME! The guys end up going out to where Cate is um, dancing (I think because of a worried call from Julia). She’s super drunk and she says Ryan and Baze are NBF’s. New best friends! Love! She says she’s going to continue humiliating herself until he comes clean about his dating past. This will not end well.

Baze confides in Ryan that he wants to know the truth about Emma. Does he really though? Ryan follows drunk Cate out and tells her the story of his relationship with Julia. He lived with her for three years. He proposed, she said no. Cate asks Ryan if he’s 100 percent over Julia and he says no. She asks how it’s different than Baze. Whew big fight. I am so glad we finally got to see the root of Ryan’s fear of failure. He didn’t want Cate to reject his marriage proposal (which she almost did) because he didn’t want to feel unloved and rejected again. It’s clear now why he’s unwilling to accept that their marriage isn’t working. He’s just as messed up as Cate is, really.

Meanwhile, Baze shows up at Emma’s door yelling. He cares about her and wants to be with her. And, there’s her teenage son at the door as well. Emma and Baze eventually talk, and she comes clean about her son who got dropped on her doorstep recently out of the blue. They admit they are falling in love with each other. So adorable! I like this relationship a lot. I think that Emma is really great for Baze.

The morning after, Cate hears about the charge to the credit card. Baze and Cate confront Lux and Tasha but they both have no parenting plan (or real parenting skills for that matter)! Tasha takes the blame for everything, and they punish her a great deal. Lux is seriously a bad friend. I don’t understand why she would sit back and let her best friend take the blame for everything. I really hope she comes clean.

Cate and Ryan call for an emergency therapy meeting. The therapist suggests that Ryan pushed Cate to say yes to feel better about himself, and get over Julia saying no. The therapist asks if they could take a break. At the end of the episode, Ryan comes to stay with Baze. Oh man. I mean, yes Baze does owe Ryan, but this will not be good. Lux talks to hot teacher, and tells him she doesn’t care about the future. She wants what he can give her. They make out. It’s awesome. Hot taboo couple is back together!

I like that this episode featured a lot of the characters coming to terms with their pasts. I have said before that I suspect Julia is still pregnant and I have a feeling she’ll be back in some capacity. It will be very interesting to see the dynamic between Baze and Ryan living together. And someone is going to find out about Lux and hot teacher sooner or later. Honestly, I’m not sure I want Ryan and Cate to work it out. I do like them together (they truly have fantastic chemistry) but they are both so flawed, I am not sure if they are really meant to be. I’m not sure if Cate is going to choose Baze — or if it will be too late because he’s with Emma — but maybe she will pull a Kelly Taylor and choose herself (I am pretty sure I’ve made this 90210 analogy before) or choose Lux and having a family over any man. I love every episode of this show. I will continue to support it and pull for it even though there are only a handful of episodes left. Keep watching, fellow Life Unexpected lovers, because I’m sure the rest of the season will be fantastic.

Life Unexpected airs Tuesday nights at 9 pm on the CW.
