REVIEW: Life Unexpected “Thanks Ungiven”
December 1st, 2010 by thetvchick
Last night’s episode of Life Unexpected “Thanks Ungiven” did not disappoint as far as dramatic Thanksgiving episodes go. I adore this show so much and the fact that it won’t be around much longer makes me very sad. But back to the episode. Baze and Emma are almost caught kissing when Baze’s dad walks in to her office. He wants her to come to Thanksgiving, because his dad will be away. This is not going to end well, of course. Lux asks Tasha to go to Baze’s and Cate’s (separate Thanksgivings are planned at first). Hot teacher was invited by Math to Baze’s and is going too. Emma’s son Sam is a creeper and spying on them talking. It’s not a Thanksgiving without some blackmail and too many mashed potatoes right? Sam blackmails Lux to get Hot Teacher to pass him in English and the madness begins.
Meanwhile, Cate sneakily takes a pregnancy test. Of course, it turns out positive. Oh boy. And if my theory stands that Julia could be pregnant too there are might be a couple babies we never get to see born on Life Unexpected. Cate’s mom and sister quickly guess that she’s pregnant. Her boobs were looking bigger. Ha! And there was a hilarious moment with Math and Lux and Tasha and Hot Teacher where Math says think of them as just a couple of guys, as uncles. CREEPY! Emma brings mashed potatoes, which is only the beginning of the multiple mashed potato dishes. Naturally, Ryan shows up at Thanksgiving as well because Page bailed on them and he decided not to go with either of his parents. Cate’s sister Abby also brings mashed potatoes. She’s upset about Baze being with Emma. Oh Abby, get over it. Then Baze’s parents show up as Emma and Baze are getting close. Baze lies about Emma being there because they work together. More mashed potatoes from Baze’s mom! On a side note, I love mashed potatoes. Emma wants to leave but Baze encourages her to stay. Also, Sam very clearly has a crush on Lux. This is getting good!
To cover his ass, Baze wants to lie and say Lux and Sam are dating. Sam wants to bribe Lux because he has a picture of her and Hot Teacher. She kisses him to get him to stay quiet. Of course, he doesn’t give her the picture. Meanwhile, Abby tries to interject where she isn’t wanted and talk to Ryan which causes a Cate/Abby fight. This seems like a typical family Thanksgiving so far. And then Abby outs Baze and Emma to Baze’s parents. Baze’s dad tells him to end it with Emma. They have a heartbreaking talk, where he once again expresses his disappointment with Baze. I am totally team Baze on this one. He is making good choices, he just likes Emma! He offers an ultimatum: Baze and Emma need to break up or Baze is fired. Ugh.
Lux comes clean about Sam to Hot Teacher and he freaks out. It’s okay Hot Teacher, no one is going to come arrest you. Or are they?! Baze can’t manage to carve the turkey because he’s so angry, and Emma comes to the rescue. Hold on to her Baze, she’s a good one. Everyone makes ridiculous baby references around the table and Cate freaks out. She ends up spitting out her wine that she’s not supposed to drink all over the turkey. She admits to everyone that she’s pregnant and the look on everyone’s faces is CLASSIC.
After the baby news, Ryan and Cate talk. He says having a baby changes everything. He’s going to be an accountable guy. She doesn’t want him back if they are going to keep fighting or if he wants a baby. She wants him back because he wants her. Team Cate on this one. She is clearly pretty messed up (so is Ryan though) but in this argument, she is the voice of reason. A baby is not a reason for a couple to get back together or stay together. It will only be misery for the baby and the rest of the family.
Lux tells Tasha she needs to tell Cate about her rather illegal relationship before something bad happens. Tasha is upset that Lux would tell Cate about dating Hot Teacher because Sam still knows what happened with the former foster mom and could get her in trouble. She doesn’t want to lose everything. Team Tasha on this one. Lux, get with the program! Cate and her mom talk. She says the baby will fix things. I must say, Cate’s mom is not the best mom in the world.
Baze kicks his dad out and says he chooses Emma. Go Baze! And to end a rather perfect Thanksgiving, the police come to arrest Tasha for assault and Lux doesn’t come clean. LUX SERIOUSLY?! I get that Lux has had a really awful past. In fact, next week the show is delving even deeper into this past. However, Tasha has been her friend there through everything. It is not right to sacrifice her new found life just so she can save face. I hope Lux redeems herself. She doesn’t have that much longer to prove herself as a good friend and good daughter. I think she will though. I’m really not sure who I want Cate to be with in the end. My heart says Baze, but Baze is so happy with Emma. Whatever happens, there is no doubt that I absolutely love this show. I will buy the two seasons on DVD and watch them when it goes off the air. Keep supporting it! Keep watching! I’m sure the best is yet to come.
Life Unexpected airs Tuesday nights at 9 pm on the CW.

I am having the same issue deciding who I want Baze to be with. I really want C & B, but he does seem so smitten with Emma and it was so cute how happy he was when he announced his girlfriend was at the door. Another great episode. It’s such a shame that the show keeps getting better and better, and we face the end? I really hope some miracle comes into play because my Tuesday nights, and my TV in schedule in general, is never going to be the same without it. Thanks for writing! Love your reviews each week!

I just want Cate&Baze!!!! It’s making me nervous that there’s only three episodes left and they are not making any progress with that!! And now they make Cate pregnant!?!? COME ON!! If this season proved anything is that her and Ryan are just not meant to be, I don’t even think they have any chemistry, and now they are putting a baby in the middle with only three episodes left!!!
I just want Cate and Baze to at least have a chance =(
