REVIEW: Pretty Little Liars “The Naked Truth”
February 7th, 2012 by thetvchick
So my Pretty Little Liars reviews were on a small hiatus of sorts due to some family matters, but rest assured, I am back. And last night’s episode had some crazy, shocking developments. There was an unexpected “friendship,” a school sleepover and a twist that was hard to see coming. I really love where this season is going. I also love that we’ve gotten so many answers and there is still a lot more to discover.
The episode starts with the girls finding a phone number in Ali’s coat pocket from the claim ticket they found last week. The girls call and leave a message, saying they are a friend of Vivian Darkbloom’s (Ali’s alter ego, also a “Lolita” character). Meanwhile, at school, Kate’s mom’s all pissed off about the photo. The Vice Principal is making Kate and Han to do this Truth Up event. This turns out to sort of be like that tear-inducing MTV show “If You Really Knew Me.” You all watched that, right? No, just me? Okay.
Then we have a little Aria/Holden moment. She’s worried about that bruise she saw. And then a bag with pills falls out. Oh, Holden, what are you up to? My theory: he is bipolar or something and needs pills. He seems too nice to be a crazy drug addict.
Then we see CREEPY Jenna and Noel together. Ew! And Jason is back. Looking fine with his new hair cut, I must say. But what does this all mean?
And Ashley Marin is trying to get the truth out of Han, who says there isn’t a name of the person who framed her now and has framed her in the past. I find it really interesting that Han is the one who has come closest to telling anyone about A. You guys, remember when Laura Leighton was on both Melrose Places? Fun times.
Back at school, Aria not having Holden’s niceness. Caleb and Aria get assigned to Creepy Jenna’s group. Spencer’s mom and Jason get assigned to chaperone that group too. Oh boy.
Em takes the exercise a little too far, but rightfully so. She says she doesn’t feel safe in school. And if I were a parent or a principal, I’d try to dig deeper. But instead, the Vice Principal tells her she’s no saint and if she feels unsafe and unwelcome she should look at herself. Ugh, go away principal! Meanwhile, Hanna has a not so great moment where she asks if Ella thinks she’s a bully. Oh boy.
In the spirit of Truth Up Day, Em tries to make amends with Mona. Too late, Em! Mona does strangely offer to help her get back on the swim team, though. And in the other room, Jenna and Caleb have some words. Woo go Caleb!
And Em and Aria call the claim ticket phone number back, the lady says she doesn’t know who Vivian is and not to call back. Later, Aria tries to end the deal with Holden because of the drugs and all. But how will she see Ez? (These are serious questions y’all).
Em goes to the Vice Principal’s office (she’s called in) and Mona is there and is um, crazy good with technology. (Hint, hint, hint, A, hint). Mona digs around to try and find something incriminating so Em can re-join the swim team. Mona wants to blackmail the VP but Em has doubts.
The moms talk about the girls and how everything sort of hit the fan when Alison came along. Ashley, you are just now being perceptive? Get with the program, parents!
Later, Jason argues with Spencer’s mom. Flashback to Ali. Jason made out with Melissa in a car and Ali seems all curious to listen in to the fight. Hmmm.
Back in the present, Han sees Kate has a birth mark, so the picture that was sent out has to be photoshopped. It was all done by Kate. Whoa. Hanna confronts her and the girls record the conversation of her confession on their phones. Way to work together, ladies!
And back to Truth Up day, someone’s anonymous confession is that they know who killed Alison DiLaurentis. Crazy! Aria is looking for Caleb to tell him to stop looking into who sent the photo from han’s phone and she runs into Jenna and Noel. Ugh. Aria goes to the roof top. Bad idea, seriously. And Caleb turns out to be sitting in a classroom. Spence gets a creepy A text and sees Jason. She asks Jason if he’s back because her dad is his father too. He says, “Who told you?” Apparently Ali but she didn’t realize until tonight. WHOA.
Aria is stuck on the roof with presumably A, but it’s Noel and Holden comes to the rescue. Whew, close one. He wants to make amends. And Mona supposedly got Em back on the team.
Later, Spencer confronts her mom about Jason. I am very, very curious to see where this whole thing goes now that Spencer knows the truth. Vivian’s friend calls back and wants to meet. At the very end of the episode, A trolls through school and steals Caleb’s laptop. This is a clue here, people! A has access to school or was at that sleepover.
Overall, I thought it was an excellent episode. I had been sort of waiting for some answers (obviously the big answer — who is A? wont be revealed until the finale). But I was curious what the whole deal with Jason was, and now we know. Holden has more to him than we thought (I’m sure we’ll find out soon) and Kate continues to be her evil self. We all thought A sent that text but Kate did! I am curious to see where this whole Ali/alter ego leads the girls. And who was the guy who called them back about Ali/Vivian? I can’t wait to find out.
Pretty Little Liars airs Monday nights at 8 PM on ABC Family.
