PRETTY-LITTLE-LIARS-The-Goodbye-Look-Season-2-Episode-2-10

Last night’s episode of “Pretty Little Liars,” called “The Goodbye Look,” was heartbreaking, heart-wrenching, and had all the makings of the hit drama I know and love. There were major developments for Aria and Ezra that I will talk about later. I know she is supposed to get another love interest, so I fear that this might be the end for a bit, but there was a rather amazing make-out session that would say otherwise. Who knows? This episode also focused a lot on a new guy back in town, Jason DiLaurentis. Ali’s brother did appear last season, but he has been re-cast. The character is back and creepier than ever. The episode also gives a lot of clues into Ali’s life and disappearance and who A might be.

The beginning of the episode picks up with the girls are trying to figure out the Ian texting mystery. They see Jason throwing away pictures and other stuff from a past tribute to Ali. He’s back in living in the DiLaurentis house. Oh boy, this is going to make for some good drama. Later, Emily notices her whole hard drive has been erased — which means the Ian videos are gone. Ugh. At school, Ezra’s last day as her teacher is coming up, and Aria is clearly on edge about this. She wants to know what to expect when he leaves. He wants her to come by his apartment and she puts him off a bit. I love them so much. For serious. Anyway, Hanna wants the girls to all sit together at lunch but they don’t to keep up the charade. Aww, let them be friends again! They all get a creepy text from A about being alone in a crowd. Is this a clue that A is in school with them?

Then, Toby shows up at school. He got a job with a construction company. The sooner he gets money, the sooner he can get out of the house and maybe Rosewood. But there is a cute moment with Spencer and Toby where he tells him she’d be the reason he would stay. Love.

And another character returns to Rosewood: Samara. Remember the girl who Emily kind of hit it off with before? I enjoyed her and I’m glad she’s back. In any case, she asks Emily to a movie. Also, a college recruiter from Danby (coincidentally, the college I went to was on Danby Road) has been watching Emily and wants to talk to her about being on their swim team.

Meanwhile, Hanna’s dad has shown up because he’s worried about her. He offers to stick around for a few days. I say: too little, too late, buddy. And later, Hanna basically says the same thing to him. We then learn that stuff has been stolen from Emily’s garage and garages all over the neighborhood. Ahh! Spencer goes to see Jason, who grills her about the Bell Tower incident. He asks if Ian confessed and Spencer says that she thinks he did. According to Ian, Spencer pushed Ali and she fell and that’s how she died. Jason gets very very intense. I am very excited to see where this goes, as Jason played a big role in the books. He is most definitely another Rosewood resident that is hiding something and give me the creeps. But there’s a lot of those in Rosewood.

Then it’s flashback time! Jason is telling Ali to stay out of his room. Ali says she has hiding places all over the house and yard and that’s why all their secrets are safe. Then, we hear a crashing noise from inside the house. This is a HUGE clue into who A might be and also into who her murderer might be (they may or may not be the same person). She has things hidden all over! Find them, girls! Remember this flashback and take it to heart!

Later, Em meets with the college recruiter and lies about moving away from Rosewood because it might hurt her chances at a scholarship. Aw, Em. I hear she is definitely moving, but obviously I hope it’s not for a very long time. And then in other bad news, Toby gets laid off because a client threatened to fire the crew if Toby wasn’t fired. Sad.

And back to my favorite student/teacher romance, Aria is in Ezra’s apartment to talk to him but he’s running very late. She tries to amuse herself but is struggling. Side note, I absolutely adore the music playing in this episode. Eventually, Aria writes Ezra a note and leaves it in his typewriter that says “Sorry we couldn’t make this work.” NOOO! Yes, I love them. Deal with it. In other couple news, Spencer tells Toby about Ian’s texts. They are looking down at Rosewood and Toby says Rosewood has monsters in it. They are so cute together.

Hanna shows up to the Grill and meets Mona. She tells her to be careful around Noel, and they make up. How about you be careful around Mona, Han? I just don’t like Mona. While Spencer is out, Aria shows up to see her and her house has been broken into. Someone pushes Aria down and rushes out. Gasp! Aria obviously turns out to be okay but still! Scary! Spencer and Aria discuss the fact that it might not be A breaking in to the garages and Spencer’s house. What if it’s Ian and he was looking for Spencer?

The next day, Emily meets with the recruiter who can’t give Emily anything in writing promising a commitment. He can give her a maybe letter though. I hope that’s enough to keep her in Rosewood. At school, Ezra gives a speech to his class about how much he will miss them and how much they mean to him, but he is clearly only thinking about Aria. Awww. Heart. Broken. He reads a quote about giving up the life you planned for the life that’s waiting. Adore this. After school, Aria is debating what to do and goes to his classroom, but it’s empty. Much like the Glee scene where Will shows up to see Emma in her office (feeling all regretful), Aria sees him out the window and runs after him. And yes, I did just compare “Pretty Little Liars” to “Glee.” Again, deal with it. And once she runs out to find him, we get the kiss/make out session that everyone has been buzzing about. And it was amazing. It might be a bit risky right outside of school, even if Ezra’s not her teacher anymore, but it was so so good. Whew.

At the end of the episode, Melissa tells Spencer she never left the house but her boots and rain jacket would say otherwise. The girls meet and they wonder if Melissa did go to see Ian since she had the sonogram picture in her pocket. They run into Jason who is re-planting and putting up a fence. SO CREEPY! The girls wonder if he’s trying to keep things out or in.

What a crazy action-packed episode. I have so many questions. Is the end or the beginning for Aria and Ezra? Now that he’s not her teacher anymore, they are free to have a relationship. But, he will be at Hollis College, so will he meet someone else? Will she meet someone else? Will the distance cause problems? I hope that this is not the last we will see of them, but I have a feeling there might be bumps in the road. We’ll see though. Also, as I said before, I am very intrigued by Jason. In the books, it was implied that there was sort of a Toby/Jenna relationship going on between Ali and her brother, so I wonder if that will eventually come into play. Jason also definitely had a lot to do with the whole Ian mystery, so I’m sure we will be seeing some of that. I’m also curious to see if Emily will leave town, and if things will heat up between her and Samara. This season is definitely shaping up to be a great one!

Pretty Little Liars airs Tuesday nights at 8 pm on ABC Family.

  • The scene with Spencer and Toby looking down over Rosewood had to be my favorite scene of the night for me. It was so well written, and creepy, and sweet all in one; I loved it!

I’m with you on the Aria/Ezra romance. I really hope it works out where they stay together, but it seems like it could go either way! The end scene was, yes, risky, but amazing! It definitely made my heart flutter.

Great review, thanks for posting! I work with ABC Family and I have to totally agree with Eve on the Spencer/Toby scene. It was such a sweet moment for the two of them but at the same time, the town really did look like a figurine inside a snow globe, and ‘A’ is the one shaking it! What do you think is going on with Jason and is fencing the yard to keep the liars out or something else in?

Thanks for reading! I clearly love everything ABC Family :)

As for Jason, I think he’s probably trying to keep people out and is most definitely hiding something. Perhaps his friendship with Ian?
