By The Light Of The Moon

“By the Light of the Moon” is our last new episode of The Vampire Diaries until 2011, so I hope you enjoyed it people!

We start with Tyler calling Hot Uncle Mason on his land line because his cell voicemail has filled up. But, you know, he’s dead and stuff. However, there’s a blond lady there who is listening; she is kind of fake looking, and I’m not feeling it.

Over at the Gilbert residence, Jeremy and Bonnie are keeping Elena busy (trapped with Bonnie’s magic) so that she can cool it with the kamikaze missions. They also test her to see if she’ll take the moonstone (she does). So, they’re feeling pretty smug and justified right now.

Meanwhile, Stefan, Damon, and Katherine engage in some witty banter over at the tomb where Stefan further emphasizes that he only cares for Elena.

Back over at the Lockwood’s, Tyler lies to the Widow Lockwood about where he’ll be for the evening because he’s got some wolfing to do. As he’s about to leave, the blond lady shows up (her name is Jules btw) and tells them that Hot Uncle Mason never came back (you know, because he’s still dead).

At the Mystic Grill, Alaric overhears Tyler and Caroline’s conversation about Jules coming to town. (Also, Aunt Jenna is throwing some historical society party or something. She is lame).

Damon and Elena then engage in some banter at her house until he leaves to go deal with the Hot Uncle Mason situation. He leaves Jeremy in charge of babysitting Elena. Jeremy puts his head in Elena’s lap, and it kind of creeps me out.

Caroline and Tyler continue to chat about Hot Uncle Mason while we then flash to Jules calling someone about Tyler and how Mason lied about his wolfiness. Tyler then begins to do more prep for the change. He strips down, and you know, that’s pretty nice. (My notes indicate “dang that body.”)

Bonnie then apologizes to Luka, and he invites her in where he shows off the family’s extensive Grimoire collection.

Moving onto more trouble! Alaric goes over to Jules at the Mystic Grill and starts flirting her. Damon then comes over and apologizes for him. While she’s not looking, Alaric slips some wolf’s bain in her drink. (Good thing they’re not on that show where people do bad stuff and then we have to guess whether people will intervene because this totally looks like a tag-team date-rape drug situation). Damon and Jules talk a bit about Hot Uncle Mason.

Katherine and Stefan continue to chill in the tomb where she seduces him, and there’s the start of a hot sex scene. FACE. It was just Katherine infiltrating his dreams. Stefan remains faithful to Elena.

Back at their house, Elena and Aunt Jenna talk more about the historical society thing. It turns out Elijah is there because Aunt Jenna invited her in. (Ugg Aunt Jenna, you are worse than Dawn from Buffy. Seriously, the worst!) Eiljah pretends to leave, but he’s then upstairs. Elena and him make a deal that she’ll be some bait for Klaus as long as her family is safe. She also has another part of the deal that we learn about later. We also learn Elijah doesn’t want to break the curse.

Caroline remains with Tyler as he begins his change all locked up. I’m starting to majorly heart these two together. And I’m also really starting to love Tyler. Also, the change to wolf is sort of horrifying. Caroline stays with him until he gets all teethy. She barricades him in with a door and a gate. He still almost manages to break through all of this (and does break through his chains). She runs like mad out of there, and she’s really emotional. When it’s all over, she comes back and they’re all emo together.

Meanwhile, Bonnie and Luka are doing this rad spell to remove the curse from the moonstone. There’s all this floating and a light show. Nice.

Back at the Mystic Grill, Jules totally knows her drink has been messed with (she also knows Damon is a vamp). She tells him that he is incredibly arrogant to pick this night to mess with her. Alaric and Damon then leave the bar, and Alaric convinces Damon to go home and just be cool for the night. When Damon gets home, he talks to Rose who came back. Jules then comes through the window and bites Rose. Damon stabs her, and she leaves. The bite starts to heal, so they’re figuring that bite thing is just a myth.

Over at Luka’s, Luka tells his dad they he put on quite a show, and Bonnie totally believed him. The moonstone is apparently still in good working order and now in the Martin family’s possession. I’ve decided he sucks, but he does look a little bummed about it.

To the tomb we go! Katherine explains to Stefan that she was just trying to preserve herself all these years, and she really does love him. She also tells him that Isobel might be a good contact for finding Klaus. Elijah then shows up and thanks Katherine for having the good sense to be frightened, ha. He frees Stefan (the other part of Elena’s deal) and leaves Katherine there. Stefan then shows up at Elena’s and they make-out.

We end with Rose and Damon talking about how she wants to stay and help. He gets another look at her bite mark, and apparently the curse is true. Her skin is looking all flesh eating bacteria like. Bummer for Rose!

Another solid episode. I’ll give it a B+. Super bummer that Luka is sort of a bad guy. I was hoping he wasn’t too keen on his father’s actions. I am however loving the B plot with Caroline and Tyler. I’m a nerd who is just loving this unlikely romance. Elena is however starting to bug me. I hate when a character gets all self-important like this. I’m also interested to see where they go with the Rose dying thing. I also want to know more about Jules and who she was calling. Guess we’ll also have to wait for January!

Stay tuned for more very exciting Vampire Diaries action as The TV Chick shares the scoop from her set visit to Mystic Falls!

Glad someone else was creeped out by Jeremy laying his head in Elena’s lap…

Total redemption in the werewolf department in my opinion. This was way scarier than Hot Uncle Mason’s puppy of a werewolf. Always scarier when you don’t see everything (I follow the JJ Abrams mentality to the max here!) and even though we saw Jules in full-on werewolf-ness, it was definitely more well done than our first werewolf encounter.

Can’t wait for more in 2011!!!
