Homecoming

Okay, people. Were you ready for the ‘fall finale’ of The Vampire Diaries? I wasn’t. But, ‘Homecoming’ happened anyways (BTW, as I was preparing to watch it, I was like, I bet this episode is entitled Homecoming. And then it was. And I am awesome).

We start with Stefan and Klaus having a little chit chat on the phone where Stefan is like, oh hiii, your dad’s dead. Come to Mystic Falls, it will be rich! So, one hour earlier, Mikael, Elena, Stefan, and Damon cooked up a plan. They needed to be legit for Klaus because Stefan’s lying skills are off nowadays. Because of this (and the fact that vamps can’t kill originals without dying), Elena stabs him. Back to the phone call. Klaus is all, uhh, don’t really believe you, let me talk to my sissy. And sissy Rebekah sort of hates her brother now, so she’s like, yep, dad is totes dead. And Klaus is on his way! They pull the stake out of Mikael so they can continue hatching the plan. When Mikael wakes, Rebekah is there doing her nails. He’s like, hey daughter. And she’s like, you destroyed our family. You made us this, I hate you! You know, normal teenager stuff.

Back at the Gilbert Residence, Elena is getting ready for the dance by exclaiming the typical teenage line, ‘I have nothing to wear!’ Bonnie’s there, and is like, hey let’s not go then. We can hang out with Alaric and the hieroglyphics. And then things are awkward as they talk about the end of Boneremy. <--(that looks funny). But, Bonnie's probs are like the least of my Mystic Falls worries right now, so moving on.

Elena is now at the SHBP where her and Damon are preparing some Wolf's Bain bombs. Stefan comes in because he wants to borrow a tie, and the three of them have a riveting discussion about who is going to mess up the plan. (Any bets?) Stefan's like, won't be me, I have no humanity.

Over at the school, Caroline has roped Tyler into using this awesome glitter maker to prep for the school dance. They then argue about Rebekah the Blood Slut because Tyler wants to go drink from some weirdo willing humans. He's also set Matt up with Rebekah for the dance. Caroline is not pleased with anything going on here except for her glitter bus.

At the SHBP, Elena and Rebekah talk about how Rebekah has never been to a dance because she's always been on the run. Elena thanks her for her help. Rebekah is muy emo because although she's always loved/hated her brother, she never thought she'd be the one to help drive a stake through his heart. Elena then gives her Mama Original's necklace back by putting it on her. And then things start to get really real when Elena stakes her through the back (like a boss). Damon comes in and helps her move the body and is like this is so Katherine of you, that's sort of a compliment. We also learn that Damon doesn't trust Mikael or Stefan, but Elena does trust Damon. He's a man with a plan.

Over at the school, the dance has been cancelled because of some gym flooding. So, we move the party to Tyler's house. Elena talks to Matt when he arrives to pick up Rebekah, and she's like change of plans? Aww, I like that Matty's a part of this now. It's good to have purpose; keeps kids off the streets.

So, at the party, Stefan is like, nice party Tyler. And Tyler is like, Klaus planned it. Uh oh. Matt and Elena get there, and Caroline tells them that Klaus is in on it and they are not surprised. Caroline is in the dark however.

Klaus and Stefan meet up and Klaus wants to know where Rebekah is (he wants to reunite the family). Stefan legit doesn't know, so we're good there. Stefan then tells Klaus that he wants freedom from compulsion. Back at the house, Mikael shows Damon his secret weapon. Stefan gets there, and Mikael drinks from him.

Okay, back to the party, Klaus points out all his new, shiny hybrids to Tyler. Tyler is like, hmm. He then goes to Caroline wanting to know what she knows. She knows nada. He then tranquilizers her. He then has Matt get her out of there to keep her safe.

Klaus and Elena then have a little tete-a-tete. He thinks she's nervous, but she says she just doesn't like him. He thinks they have a plan and encourages her to give it her best shot.

Damon arrives and rips a hybrid's heart out to get in. Damon and Tyler have a little fight and then Bonnie gives them magic headaches. She catches a glimpse of Mikael's stake that Damon now has in his possession.

A hybrid then comes to Klaus who is playing beer pong (?!) to tell him that his dad is there. Klaus goes to the door and sure enough Mikael is there looking all alive. Mikael and Klaus then have some WORDS. For real. Mikael is like, you're a coward. Come out and face me or Elena dies (Elena's there with Mikael). Now, Klaus is crying and telling Mikael to kill her. Mikael says that your impulse will keep you from being great. He then stabs Elena. Klaus is all distracted by this and Damon comes from behind him in a stabbing attempt. He misses, they rumble. Also, Elena wasn't Elena, it was Katherine (I thought as much) [Ed. Note: I didn't see this one coming!] She throws some wolf bain bombs at the hybrids. Stefan then comes and stops Damon. Klaus gets the magic stake and kills Mikael who goes up in flames.

Caroline wakes and Tyler is there. He tries to have a heart to heart about trying to protect her. Also, he's always controlled by something (the moon, now Klaus), but at least he doesn't have to go through the pain of changing. He doesn't want her to turn her back on him. She doesn't say anything, and he leaves.

Damon and Elena are MAD. Especially Damon. He really thought Stefan wouldn't turn on them. Elena knows she has to let Stefan go now. (More almost make out close calls). Katherine then calls Damon to be like good try buddy. When they get off the phone, we see that Stefan is in the car with her. We flashback to "Elena's" convo with Klaus. He tells her that if he dies, his hybrids have orders to kill Damon. Katherine then went to Stefan who is waking up from being sucked by Mikael to tell him the deal. She needs Stefan to help so Damon won't die. ANOTHER heart to heart here. She loves his humanity, and she loves him. And she didn't want Damon to die. She needs him to get mad now though.

We end with Klaus on the phone with Stefan. Klaus is going to check out his traveling coffin family and sees they're all missing. Stefan's got the bodies. He asks Klaus, "Were you prepared for this? Revenge." Boom, vampired.

I love you The Vampire Diaries, and I will miss you for now. I can't wait to find out what Stefan has planned for the bodies. I hope he does some waking (long live Elijah!). And the fallout between the boys is going to be crazy. Bummer we have to wait two months to find out.

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 PM on the CW.
