REVIEW: The Vampire Diaries “All My Children”

TVD

Hi all, I’m here again to discuss some TVD. This episode, “All My Children” was another example of why this show continues to be one of the most exciting hours of television each week. For realz.

We start, as we often do, with Elena waking up. She calls Stefan, who ignores her call. But, she leaves a voicemail about having to talk to him. She then calls Damon (second after Stefan – second place is just 1st loser! – not that Damon is a loser, but to Elena, he loses. Whatever, you all get what I’m saying). He does pick up (while still in bed with Rebekah) and is super pissy with her because his feelings are hurt, seriously. Elena decides to stop by right as Rebekah is leaving (Awkward City, but I’m not sure who’s the mayor…probably Elena). He’s still all snippy and short with her even when she tells him about Mama Original’s plan to do her children in. He soooo doesn’t care about the demise of all those folks.

So, Rebekah is back home. Kol is still a pain in the ass. Klaus is just sort of sitting there sketching (BTW, it feels weird to see Klaus in ‘family’ moments like this where he’s just there chilling and not out in front maiming peeps). Kol gets him to go out though because he’s bored. Elijah takes this opportunity to talk about mama to Rebekah because he thinks there’s something up. She’s like, nah, chill.

Meanwhile across town, Bonnie is trying to figure out how to do a privacy spell with Elena chatting. Caroline is the one outside of the room who is testing it out. It’s a no go. Elena also learns that Mama Original came to see Bonnie and Abby and that she plans to kill her chillins’ tonight. Elena is still on this save Elijah train.

Over at the SHBP, Damon and Stefan are having their hourly bicker. They both hope that Elena doesn’t screw this plan up. (I’m sure you can’t guess what’s gonna happen!)

And here we go. Elijah comes to Elena and wants to take a drive. They get somewhere in the woods and he gives her a little history lesson on what used to be where in Mystic Falls. He then tells her that he knows she lied, and he can feel her heartbeat as she continues to lie. (I found this sexy; what does this say about me?!) So, she spills the beans and says she wishes there was some way to help. He’s all like…actually…He then stomps the ground and they both fall through. (Elijah, you are on notice!) So, Elena is stuck below with no cell service.

Meanwhile, Damon and Alaric are on the phone (as they often are!) discussing Elena and sex with Rebekah and all that jazz. Alaric is then chilling with Dr. Fell who tells him that they can’t tell anything about who harmed him. He still can’t remember anything; she suggests he was compelled perhaps. BTW, all of this is going on at the Grill when Kol and Klaus walk in (because the Grill is the only place in town, truth).

So, Bonnie and Abby meet Esther at the witch house. Finn is there also. She needs to channel them both so she can get the Bennett power, so they’re uber necessary.

Rebekah is watching Elena in the caves to make sure she doesn’t escape. Meanwhile, Elijah is with Stefan and Damon asking them for their help (or Elena dies of course). He needs them to kill Bonnie or Abby to end the witch line. Rebekah is taking pictures of Elena like a psycho serial killer would on Law and Order: SVU. Basically, Rebekah is still super mad about being stabbed in the back.

Stefan and Damon are trying to figure out a plan to not kill the Bennetts, but if they have to they have to. But, they’re also trying to get one of the originals daggered because that would bring them all down. Basically, we’ve got a lot of plans currently cooking.

PLAN IN ACTION: Damon calls Alaric to fill him in. Caroline sashays in as a distraction (we’re all at the Grill still). Klaus wants to talk to her and chases her out. She says she’s too smart to be seduced by him.

Okay, the ritual has started at the witch house. Esther, Finn, Abby, and Bonnie are there. She explains that Finn will be the sacrifice (he says it’s a gift; dude hates being a vamp). This spell will turn them human and then they’ll be killed.

So, Dr. Fell is part of this plan and is all pushing her boobs out to distract Kol. Alaric daggers him (like a boss of course). All the rest of them start to turn dead-ish because they’re all connected. Except Klaus. He can feel something weird is happening though, and he gets pissed at Caroline because he thinks she’s part of it. She denies it, but she is of course. He finds Kol, takes the dagger out. Elijah shows up.

Elena manages to get away from Rebekah while she’s down for a bit, but she chases her and finds her. But, Elena ends up in the no-vamp allowed part of the cave.

Alaric and Dr. Fell are back at her place where he’s resting after getting injured during his escapades.

Stefan and Damon are discussing the plan and acknowledge the fact that Elena will hate them if they kill Bonnie. Then they flip a coin to see who’s gonna take care of bidness. Then they both look at each other weird so we don’t know who got what.

Rebekah finds a way around not being able to get in the cave by throwing gasoline on Elena and in the cave. She then is filming her. Seriously, this is like a Lifetime movie. Elena gets all bold though and tells Rebekah that she knows she won’t kill her (at least right now).

So, the spell is getting super spell-like. Esther and Finn are in the circle (he may be a mother lover). Klaus, Elijah, and Kol show up, but they can’t get in the circle. Mama Original tells them they’ve got no shot pleading for their lives.

Bonnie and Abby are hiding in the witch house. Our boys go in, and Damon takes down Abby (he turns her). If you’re a vamp, you can’t be a witch. The line is broken and Mama’s spell doesn’t work. Her and Finn flee.

Rebekah gets the all clear from Elijah that Elena can be sent home safely. Rebekah tells her that she’s gonna take her time and watch her suffer. Oh brother, guess we’ll deal with that mess later.

Elena shows up at Bonnie’s. Caroline opens the door because Bonnie does not want to see her (her mom is in transition). Caroline explains that Bonnie is happy to continually save your ass, but she’s tired of always being the one to lose (Oh yeah, Elena has made out well in this. She’s lost both of her parents, her bio parents, her Aunt, and she selflessly sent her brother/cousin away. Bonnie, get over yourself, seriously.)

We also discover that Stefan actually lost the coin toss, but Damon did the dirty work because he’s noticed Stefan is back to his all-animal diet (since his crazy bridge night). He says that he makes the better bad guy anyways, and he knows Elena wants Stefan rather then himself. Back at home, Elena gets a lovely little polite letter from Elijah apologizing for his actions but he did what he did to protect his family (OK, I get it – you’re off notice Elijah).

Back at Klaus’s place, Elijah is lamenting his monster-ness to Rebekah. He apparently peaces out then. Rebekah then goes to Klaus because they’re the only cheeses standing alone. She tells him that she saw in the cave a drawing of a white oak tree that grew after they left a bunch of years ago. So, more weapons are out there that can take these fools down.

We end with Alaric sleeping on the couch at the doctor’s place. She’s asleep in bed. He wakes up and wanders to the kitchen where he sees his medical file amongst others. He also finds the knife, THE knife. She comes out and says you weren’t supposed to see that. Then she shoots him. Dang! She sucks. I knew it. Poor Alaric. Hope he sleeps with his magic ring on.

Another fabulous episode. I loved all of the stuff with Elijah. Klaus as a background character. Always loving Caroline. I can not wait to see what’s next. Are the Originals that left coming back? Is Bonnie going to be a pain in my ass forever? Is Abby going to fully transition? Is Alaric going to have to cut a bitch? [Ed. Note: Can we please see more Salvatore brothers love? And why does Alaric keep dying?]

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 PM on the CW.

  • I’m pretty sure I’m the only person that noticed the sad state of Elena’s closet…homegirl has next to nothing to wear!

Will Abby have to fully transition to make the curse work, or couldn’t they just kill her now so she doesn’t have to become a vampire and put her out of her misery? Seemed like a loophole in the curse…unless while in transition she is neither witch nor vampire? I obviously think too much about these things…

PS – Elijah gets hotter ever episode. On purpose?

  • Excellent post! We will be linking to this great post on our site.
    Keep up the good writing.
