I’m going to be honest; I thought this episode, ‘Break on Through’ was just aight. Not a ton happened, and what did was not that exciting.

We begin with Alaric getting an MRI. He’s looking at himself in the mirror in the MRI machine and the evil version of himself is peering at him. Weirdness. Dr. Fell and Elena are talking about how Dr. Fell just wants to help him because he is out of control right now. Of course nothing comes back weird on the MRI because it’s some mystical voodoo. He takes the ring off because I guess he doesn’t want the evil all up in his piece.

After that, Elena and Damon are arguing about Stefan drinking human blood.

OK, so we get to look in on the Abby transition. Caroline brings some blood to her and talks about her favorite blood flavor type, oh Caroline. Abby is all bummed out because she has no witch connection to earth.

Alaric, Elena, and Dr. Fell then go to latest town event – the rebuild of ye’ olde Wickery Bridge. The Widow Lockwood gets up in Alaric’s piece about forgetting the sign that was revitalized. He’s like, please. Get off my back. Damon then runs into Sage. Remember Sage from last week? Then they run into Rebekah. Sage hates Rebekah and vice versa. Rebekah doesn’t like her because Finn was into her and turned her; Rebekah thinks she’s a commoner, a peasant if you will. Damon then gets his flirt on with Rebekah because he wants to know what she’s up to.

Elena shows up at the SHBP and Stefan’s there. It’s awkward sauce. He tells her that Samantha Gilbert was eventually put in the insane asylum, and lobotomized herself with knitting needles. She then died. Bummer man.

Over at Abby’s place, Caroline goes outside to see what the deal with Jaime is; he doesn’t really want anything to do with Abby because she’s a vampire. Caroline then gets a call from Elena to see if Bonnie can do anything about Alaric’s sorry state.

Alaric and Dr. Fell are talking about his sordid, fighting past. He tells her that he killed her cousin Logan (when he was a vamp). She’s not super bummed because the vamp thing is not her fight (also she probably knows her cousin sucked). Meanwhile, Damon is still trying to get Stefan over his blood lust.

Back at Abby’s, there’s a little flirting going on between Bonnie and Jaime when he finally comes up to see Abby. Abby then hugs him and bites him. Uh oh. Luckily Caroline and Bonnie are there to help things before it gets too out of control.

Back at the SHBP, Sage and Damon crack a plan for Rebekah to come so that they can get the info out of her. It’s kind of a weird 3-person party with a piano player they’re drinking from. I don’t know, weird sexy vampire type stuff.

Also, you should know that Alaric gave Elena his passwords and bank stuff in case things go south fast. But, Bonnie is coming and can do the spell to fix Alaric hopefully. They do need a personal effect from before all this ring jazz; his wedding ring will do.

So, Sage figures out Rebekah’s deal and ‘shows’ it to Damon while they kiss in the shower. It’s random, but sexy and stuff, so I’ll take it. (It’s just the stuff with the tree BTW). Damon figures out the tree is at the Wickery Bridge. Ah ha!

Stefan shows up at Alaric’s place when Elena is there looking for his ring. They find all this psycho serial killer crap as he’s trying to ‘cleanse’ the council. This includes a letter to Jeremy about how he’ll need to carry on if he dies. Hoo boy. Over at the Gilbert’s, Alaric has gone on another one of his murderous rampages to kill Dr. Fell. She gets stabbed and locks herself in the bathroom. Elena and Stefan get back, but Alaric only sees Elena. He gives her some random hooey story about what happened at the house. Then they both eye the knife, awkward…luckily Stefan comes in and puts the sleeper hold on him. They then save Dr. Fell with some of Stefan’s blood, but he then needs to leave because he’s HUNGRY.

Meanwhile at the Wickery Bridge, Damon finds Rebekah burning the wood needed to stake her. Bummer. Sage betrayed him because she saw in his mind that the originals were all linked. They made a deal earlier that she would help kill Rebekah as long as Finn was safe. And obviously Damon wasn’t going to hold to that.

Alaric then wakes the next day with Damon watching him. Bonnie’s spell worked, but they’re going to have him under house arrest for a bit just in case. Downstairs, Elena and Bonnie make up, yay. Bonnie is going back to care for Abby now though because no one in this town has to go to school. Buuuut, back at Abby’s, Caroline catches her leaving.

Elena then calls Jeremy because she feels all sad. He’s all going out with friends and having a hootin’ good time. Poor Elena.

We end with Damon and Stefan. Stefan thinks Damon should be bummed because his plan was foiled, but he’s not because he has the sign from the Wickery Bridge that Alaric was supposed to bring. And guess what it’s made of? The old oak tree. ::Throws confetti::

So, we got through some business in this episode. I’m glad Alaric’s back (and hope that this spell legit worked), but that felt like it resolved really fast. I liked Sage and look forward to seeing more from her. Abby sucked, sucks, and will continue to suck. Hmm, also I like when Damon takes showers. [Ed. Note: Don't we all?!]

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 PM on the CW.
