REVIEW: The Vampire Diaries “Murder of One”
March 30th, 2012 by E. Reagan
Good one TVD peeps, good one! We’re back to basics with “The Murder of One.”
We begin with Elena bringing food to Alaric, and Damon answering the door…and being shifty. Which isn’t anything that unusual. Elena knows something is up, but she lets it go for the most part which is sort of out of character. Anywho, she leaves. Stefan, Damon, and Alaric have become woodworkers and are making a small mess of fancy stakes. Alaric then starts to pack it in so that he can go turn his crazy, murdering self in. The boys are like, nah, don’t do that. So, he doesn’t. Man they have got some power this morning.
Meanwhile, Elena and Caroline are in the woods. Elena informs Caroline that her dad died by Alaric’s hand. She’s upset, but works through it pretty fast. Caroline then refers to Elena as the savior of the cursed and the damned…she does love her some non-humans and crazies. So, the rest of the gang (minus Alaric and Bonnie) shows up in the woods. And stakes for all! There’s 12 in total. Scenario 1 is to kill Rebekah.
Klaus finds Finn wandering a city and wants/needs him to come back with him. He and Rebekah use some intimidation tactics to get him back. Turns out, Klaus has a witch on hand to unlink them (gee, wonder who that could be? Couldn’t be our missing Bonnie, could it?). Anyway, they get back and Finn gets to have a reunion with Sage. Finn’s happiness…limited engagement. There’s also some of my fave product placement with Klaus texting with Kol on one of those fancy phone where you can write stuff with the little pen.
So, Rebekah would like some revenge on Damon. She pushes Alaric down the stairs at the SHBP and takes Damon after stabbing him.
Some of the gang is walking around town and Elena remarks that it’s weird that they haven’t heard from Bonnie….then they see Finn and Sage. Caroline listens in (I apparently took horrible notes for this scene, because that’s all I got). Stefan goes back to the house and finds Alaric and reports to Elena that they have a problem.
Things are now about to get gross. Rebekah has Damon chained up…and not in an appealing way at all for two super attractive people. She starts cutting him in order to bleed the vervain out of his system. Gross City, and Rebekah is the mayor. In the other room, Klaus does indeed have Bonnie and is forcing her to do an un-linking spell. He even threatens Jer-Bear if she won’t perform (apparently that’s where Kol is…ready to kill). He also threatens Abby, and I’m all like…who cares? (amiright?)
Caroline finds Alaric at the SHBP and they have a little heart-to-heart about murder sprees. They be cool now. She also refers to Rebekah as Buffy the Vampire….oh you!
Also, Stefan wants to stay with the plan of doing some killing while Elena wants to save Damon. Meanwhile, Damon is having a manipulated thoughts daydream (that’s the best phrase I can come up with for what’s going on here) where Elena comes and rescues him and offers her blood to drink to heal him. Sexy! And gross! Rebekah comes in and is like ha ha like Nelson on the Simpsons pretty much. She then stabs him again. Man, she seriously needs some therapy to work through her self-worth issues as related to male attention.
Back to Bonnie and Klaus, she needs all of the siblings blood for the spell. Turns out, he had weird vials of all of his siblings’ blood. He is so bizarre. Truly.
Over at the Grill, Sage and Finn are getting their party on with some Tequila. Matt then spikes their drinks with vervain and they follow Stefan out of the bar. A rumble goes down (Stefan, Alaric, and Elena are there), and let’s just say things don’t turn out so well for old Finn. And by not turn out well, I mean he went up in flames. Also, Sage is sad in her sad place. Unfortunately (which is actually fortunately for most of the world’s vamp population as we find out later), Bonnie already completed the spell. So, only Finn is dead at this point.
Bonnie is then released; she calls Elena in Klaus’s driveway to give her the scoop. Elena is bummed fo’ sho. Bonnie then proceeds to have a breakdown against her car. This breakdown is worse then Jesse Spano’s.
Stefan is all puffed up now and wants to go kill Klaus. Elena is like, ummm, maybe not a great idea? He starts to leave and Caroline pronounces that she misses well-adjusted Stefan. (Seriously Caroline, I love you). Before he can get out of there, Sage comes with one of her henchmen because she has angry feelings and needs to direct them somewhere. She then dies out of nowhere as does her henchman. They quickly figure out that anyone in Finn’s vamp bloodline is dead. So, this creates a major problem of course. We don’t know what bloodline Stefan, Damon, and Caroline came from (we can trace as far back as Rose who turned Katherine).
Stefan does end up going to rescue Damon; he calls out to Klaus who comes in with Rebekah. He’s willing to trade his stakes for his brother (he doesn’t have all the stakes though). Klaus quickly figures this out. He’s all mad at Stefan. [Ed. Note: Klaus just wants his former BFF back! He needs friends!] Rebekah releases Damon on good faith that they’ll bring the other stakes back.
Elena is still at the SHBP with Caroline trying to figure out their lineage. Caroline realizes that Tyler is part of Klaus’s bloodline (I have no beef with Tyler, but really, he’s sort of an acceptable casualty of war in my opinion).
So, Rebekah is all sad about Finn. Klaus of course is not because he’s all psycho as you know (sort of like those kids that burn bugs with their microscopes). He wants to take his stakes and Elena (for her blood) and get out of town. Rebekah may stay and he thinks she’s lame sauce.
Elena and Stefan are having one of their heart-to-hearts. He’s super bummed about all he’s done wrong. But, he does tell Elena that he loves her (!). However, he knows that part of her loves his brother. (You know, I’ve always been Team Damon (also Team Angel, Team Edward, and Team Peeta if you wondered), but I sort of want these two crazy kids to work things out).
We end with Damon coming to collect the last stake from Alaric. Bad news. Alaric’s psycho alter-ego hid it somewhere. Uh oh!
Loved this one! Super good one after last week’s sort of ho hum showing. I can’t wait to learn more about the bloodline issue and where our peeps are from. Is Rebekah going to ever renounce her Klaus allegiance? Where’s the last stake? Is Bonnie going to start an intensive therapy regime? Tyler? Jer-Bear? Will you ever come back?
The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 PM on the CW.
