REVIEW: Glee “Rumours”

GLEE-Rumours-Season-2-Episode-19-2-550x380

Last night’s episode of Glee was dedicated to the Fleetwood Mac album “Rumours.” I enjoy some Fleetwood Mac music, so I was intrigued to see what the episode would bring. There was a ton story-wise: Will/Emma developments, Quinn/Finn developments and even some Santana/Brittany developments. “Rumours” focused on just that — rumors and how they affect people. The episode also focused on the meaning behind the album — relationships, fights, positive/negative energy and dreams. A lot of big things for one hour. I will say that I could have dealt with songs outside the album, but overall, it was a very enjoyable episode.

REVIEW: Glee “Comeback”

February 16th, 2011

Pamphlet

I was so impressed with last week’s episode of Glee that I was hoping “Comeback” would represent just that, a comeback of sorts. Not that it was ever bad — because even at its lowest lows, I still find joy in Glee. But I was loving the direction they were going in. I didn’t love “Comeback” as much as “Silly Love Songs,” but I thought it was pretty good. I was glad to see the Glee kids get a starring role while also sharing the spotlight with hilarious Sue. And seriously, Chord Overstreet made me kind of like a Justin Bieber song, and that’s truly saying a lot.

REVIEW: Glee “Furt”

November 24th, 2010

GLEE Furt

For me, last night’s episode of Glee started out a bit slow. But once it picked up, it had some amazingly wonderful heartbreaking and touching moments. The episode started off with the big news of Kurt’s dad Burt and Finn’s mom Carol getting engaged. Kurt takes on the entire wedding himself and decides New Directions will be their band (Burt wants to dance a lot now that he’s feeling better). My first thought: Can I hire New Directions to play at my wedding in the future? But apparently there’s also another wedding in the Glee future. Sue Sylvester. Sue tries online dating and decides to marry herself! AMAZING! This is totally reminiscent of Sex and the City, where Carrie decides to marry herself and registers at Manolo Blahnik to get back the shoes someone stole from this woman’s horrible party. But I digress. Perhaps Ryan Murphy likes Sex and the City? The Sue thing was a bit more hyperbolic and ridiculous though. And in even more relationship news, Sam tells Quinn he thinks he loves her. Whoa. He proposes! Haha! Except it’s a promise ring and he makes a super sweet speech that he will promise never to pressure him and to be there for her. She says maybe. I adore this couple together so much. Maybe it’s the fact that I love anything Dianna Agron does (seriously she is so amazing) but I think these two are meant to be together.

REVIEW: Glee “Never Been Kissed”

November 10th, 2010

glee-s2e6-Never-Been-Kissed-01-550x380

There has been a lot of criticism of last night’s episode of Glee. “Never Been Kissed” was one of a several episode arc about bullying, which I think is a very important issue to address in these times. It might have been handled differently than other shows, but I find no fault with the way it was handled. I have also read criticism pointing out that it seemed like it was put together really quickly just to address the issue. Now, it’s possible that Glee shot the episodes out of order and quickly wrote this up, but I doubt that. Shows like this take a ton of planning and if I had to guess, I would say it was filmed months ago before the recent issues with gay suicide. In fact, Ryan Murphy pointed out in a New York Times interview that a part of the story was based on someone he knew in high school. This episode may not change the climate of bullying, but it starts a discussion among millions of people who watch the show week after week, which is incredibly significant to do. And before I get into the plot and the music and say more about the episode, I will say that I think Chris Colfer continues to earn another Emmy nomination every single week. His performance last night was phenomenal.

ADVANCE REVIEW: The Rocky Horror Glee Show

October 26th, 2010

dianna

Tonight’s episode of Glee is a big one. The Rocky Horror Glee show pays homage to the 1970s cult classic movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and it does so in spectacular fashion. Whenever Glee takes on an artist (or a movie in this case), it can be epic (Madonna and Lady Gaga episodes), great music wise but not so much plot wise (Britney episode) or classic Glee (Beatles episode). The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a beloved movie with a lot of racy scenes, but Glee tackles them with respect. The basic premise of the episode is that Emma (yes she is back for A LOT of this episode!) went to see Rocky Horror with Carl. It was a dirty movie theater and people were throwing things (you know how they do), yet Emma was having so much fun she didn’t even think about her OCD. Side note, this TV Chick went to a screening of Rocky Horror in college where they put a V on my head (for RH virgin) and I danced the time warp in the aisles. It’s all a blur. But I digress. So Will realizes that Emma’s really hitting it off with Carl and decides to put on a production of Rocky Horror with the Glee Club to impress her. He asks Emma to come on as the costume designer, and she’s pretty thrilled. Carl may be helping her, but in my opinion, she really wishes she were with Will. In any case, on with the show!

INTERVIEW: Chord Overstreet (Sam Evans) from Glee

October 25th, 2010

chord

Everybody who reads this site regularly knows of my love of Glee. Week after week (with maybe one or two exceptions in between), it brings amazing musical numbers and drama to life in a way that’s never really been done before on television. Tomorrow is the big Rocky Horror episode which pays homage to the 1970s movie by putting on a production at McKinley High. I have seen it and will be posting an Advance Review tomorrow but for now I will tell you that it is fantastic. One of the more recent additions to the cast is Sam, a new Glee club member and football teammate of Finn and Puck. I actually love his new potential relationship with Quinn, and the maturity he showed about Kurt’s crush in the last episode. I recently had the chance to chat with Chord Overstreet, who plays newcomer Sam Evans. We talked about his duet with Quinn, his tendency to take off his shirt, and he even did some impressions for me.

REVIEW: Glee “Duets”

October 13th, 2010

Last night’s episode of Glee was a perfect balance of story and music that were woven together seamlessly. I always adore Glee (with a few minor bumps in the road) but last night’s episode was a perfect example of what made me fall in love with the show in the first place. The episode starts with Puck absent and in juvie and Sam becoming a new member of the Glee club. The assignment for the week is — you guessed it — duets (or as Brittany so hilariously put it — a blanket). However, this week it’s a competition and the winner gets dinner for two at Breadsticks. But before the duets pair off, Santana and Brittany make out. Holy crap! I’m surprised this made it on at 8 pm but basically Santana is using Brittany because Puck is gone. I kind of loved this moment. I enjoy them together and I liked that later Brittany stood up for herself.

ADVANCE REVIEW: Season 2 Premiere of Glee “Audition”

September 21st, 2010

201GLEE_274

Glee is back. No seriously, I kind of can’t believe it’s back myself. There were a lot of complaints about the back 9, the use of guest stars, the HUGE onslaught of music vs. stories, the list goes on and on. I was not as disappointed in the back 9 as my fellow critics and bloggers alike, but I see their point. Ryan Murphy had promised he wants to focus on the main characters and then announced a ton of guest stars. So what’s the story? Here’s what I say: Glee is amazing. You may be cautious about the number of guest stars but we only really have a few ultimately confirmed and remember how amazing Kristen Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff and Neil Patrick Harris were? Have faith, Gleeks!
