REVIEW: Glee “Night of Neglect”

GLEE Night of Neglect Season 2 Episode 17

Glee is back!! It’s been a while, and I am very happy to have it back. Last night’s episode “Night of Neglect,” featured two of my favorite guest stars: Charice and Gwyneth Paltrow. However, they both won’t be back for an undetermined amount of time. In any case, Night of Neglect focused on neglected artists (essentially the Glee club) and had some major advancements for all the Wemma fans out there. And there were some performances that absolutely blew my mind. Also, Jessalyn (Terri Schuester) was back! Sadly, not for enough screen time but it looks like she’ll be back next week given how things were resolved.

REVIEW: Glee “Original Song”

GLEE Original Song Season 2 Episode 16

As a general rule, competition episodes of Glee tend to be some of my favorites. Mainly, because there is a ton of songs and performances but also because it just feels like the show steps up its game, along with the respective Glee clubs. “Original Song” was no exception. The music (sans the hilarious but not entirely serious original songs) was absolutely unreal amazing. There were moments where I cried, moments where I couldn’t stop smiling and a moment in particular where I cheered with joy (as I’m sure many other people did as well).

REVIEW: Glee “Sexy”

GLEE-Sexy-Season-2-Episode-15-New-Photos-With-Gwyneth-Paltrow-550x380

Okay, Glee, seriously, you are making me love you all over again. We’ve had our ups and downs but any episode that has Gwyneth Paltrow is almost guaranteed to be fantastic. Haters can hate but Gwyneth can sing. And dance. And just all around be amazing. “Sexy” tackled some important issues — celibacy, sexually active (and undereducated) teenagers, gay sex, and coming out. I realize that some television shows can feel like “on a very special episode of…” but Glee manages to intertwine important issues with amazing music and hilarious dialogue so it doesn’t feel super preachy. And the amazing music was nothing short of amazing in this episode. Gwyneth sang a bunch of times, there was a Darren Criss number and no songs that I was really not keen on.

REVIEW: Glee “Blame It On the Alcohol”

February 23rd, 2011

GLEE-Blame-It-on-the-Alcohol

Thanks to last night’s episode of Glee, I now have “Blame It On The Alcohol” stuck in my head. Not to mention some Ke (dollar sign) ha. There was a lot of criticism of this episode, but honestly, I found it a lot better and less disappointing than last week’s. I wasn’t a huge fan of what went on with Schue and Beiste (obviously more on that later) but I was so happy Emma was back (come on, I started to doubt she might ever be back!) and there were some knockout-listen-to-on-my-iPod-on-repeat performances.

REVIEW: Glee “Comeback”

February 16th, 2011

Pamphlet

I was so impressed with last week’s episode of Glee that I was hoping “Comeback” would represent just that, a comeback of sorts. Not that it was ever bad — because even at its lowest lows, I still find joy in Glee. But I was loving the direction they were going in. I didn’t love “Comeback” as much as “Silly Love Songs,” but I thought it was pretty good. I was glad to see the Glee kids get a starring role while also sharing the spotlight with hilarious Sue. And seriously, Chord Overstreet made me kind of like a Justin Bieber song, and that’s truly saying a lot.

ADVANCE REVIEW: Glee “Silly Love Songs”

February 8th, 2011

FOX

It feels kind of strange to have two episodes of Glee so close together but I’ll take it. “Silly Love Songs” is the big Valentine’s Day episode and there are a ton of developments in terms of various different relationships. There’s also a lot of great music, too. Finn is smitten with a certain someone (if you paid attention in the Super Bowl episode, you’d have a pretty good guess), and decides to set up a kissing booth to get kissed by her. And Schue wants them to break up in pairs and sing love songs. But of course with all crazy (and semi-unsanitary) ideas, things go a bit wrong.

REVIEW: Glee “The Sue Sylvester Shuffle”

February 7th, 2011

Glee is finally back! It’s been a rather long hiatus (although nothing tops last year’s wait) and I’m so glad it’s back on TV. Despite the fact that it has been a bit of an up and down season, my love for Glee has never disappeared. The lack of Glee had really left a hole in my TV schedule. Historically, Super Bowl episodes are rather grandiose and generally involve some crazy ad campaign or interactive game (remember the Friends episode?) However, contrary to the past, the details of the Glee Super Bowl episode had been kept generally under wraps, besides a few leaks of musical numbers and some tid-bits from some of the actors. But everyone knew it would be a big, huge, over the top episode…and that it was. And in my opinion, it was in the best of possible ways.

REVIEW: Glee “A Very Glee Christmas”

December 8th, 2010

GLEE-A-Very-Glee-Christmas-2

It’s “A Very Glee Christmas” and as far as Christmas episodes go, I enjoyed this one. There was a good message, a sweet story (Brittany still believes in Santa!) and a lot of the amazing Dot Marie Jones (Coach Beiste). This Jew enjoyed most of the Christmas songs and the overall plot. There was more music than the past few episodes but I feel like they went back to what makes them successful in terms of musical numbers: Rachel belting it out, maybe a Finn/Rachel duet and a couple of numbers with the whole Glee club. I think we all agree going back to what made us fall in love with the show is necessary and I thought this episode was a good start. This is not to say that I don’t enjoy every episode, and that I think that Darren Criss is a gift sent from Moses above, but I just like when they focus in on the tangible instead of the visceral.

REVIEW: Glee “Special Education”

December 1st, 2010

GLEE-Special-Education-4

Last night’s episode of “Glee” was the big sectionals episode, and I can tell you I was very eagerly awaiting this one. Last year’s sectionals episode was one of the best of the series (um, hello, Will kissed Emma in spectacular fashion!) so I had high hopes for this episode. The creative team continued to cut down the music — there was only one song 30 minutes into the episode — and there was a lot plot wise, but a key couple broke up and someone got married and broke my heart just a little. But I’ll have a lot more to say on that later. As the Glee kids prepare for sectionals, Emma tells Will to use the other members of the Glee Club for their set list and change it up a bit. She points out Quinn’s beautiful voice and I was so happy to hear this somewhere other than my own reviews. Schue decides to heed her advice, and of course this doesn’t please many Glee club members.
