Because of the whole SOPA thing going on (which I agree with by the way), I wasn’t sure I’d be able to write this review. I tried last night to take notes but WordPress wasn’t having it. Anyway, last night’s Glee was actually quite enjoyable. I was reading a lot of dislike for it but I thought it had some pretty good music choices (hello, Lea Michele ballads are back!), plot (numerous proposals and one couple eloped) and a Maggie Smith bit that was hilarious.

Last night’s episode of Glee titled “I Kissed A Girl” centered around Santana and the campaign video that was about to out her. There’s also the matter of the elections — both for Class President and a Congressional seat. It was a decent episode with a few catchy musical numbers, but overall it felt like a filler episode. Don’t get me wrong, I thought the Santana scenes were moving and fantastic (even if in a slightly emotionally manipulative way). I even liked Finn in this episode for trying to raise Santana’s spirits and make her realize she has a ton of support from those who love her. It just felt like there was a ton of music and very little plot. But I won’t give up Glee. I know a lot of people who have, but I have always said that the music makes me happy and this season has really been pretty great in the plot department.

I want to believe Glee is back to its old season one self, but I’m not all the way convinced yet. “Mash Off” was a pretty decent episode, but it was decent because some of the musical numbers (mainly one) gave me chills. And that knocked it up in the rankings. But was it anywhere near “Asian F” or “The First Time”? Not really, sadly. The episode focuses on a Glee assignment (and one of my favorites) — mash-ups. But because the groups are split (The Troubletones are great and all but can we please just all get along?!), they are going to have a Mash Off, a mash-up competition.

Last night’s episode of Glee was the big New York finale. For McKinley High, Nationals was the chance to prove to everyone and to themselves that they were that good. To be honest, going into the finale, I thought New Directions would win (or place very high). But it was about so much more than that. For Rachel, New York was about choosing her dream over love. For Schue, it was about finding himself and choosing between his dream and the Glee kids he adores so much. For Santana and Brittany, it was about friendship. For Quinn, it was about accepting herself for who she is. And for Finn, it was all about love. As Brittany so aptly explained in this episode, Glee is about family and not about winning. A twelfth place trophy might not be first place but for the Glee kids, their dreams still came true.

Last night’s episode of Glee, titled “Funeral” was one of the most emotionally resonant to date. And let’s face it, Glee does some pretty emotional episodes. “Funeral” focused on Sue’s sister’s death, and we see a side to Sue that has only really been touched upon in the past. Also, I don’t think there was a single song that I didn’t think was fantastic. One of them gave me chills and another made me cry. There was also a scene between Quinn and Finn that was crazy good. So yeah, I would say this episode of Glee was a favorite.

Last night’s episode of Glee titled “Prom Queen” was a touching episode. It’s main focus was on bullying, and coming to terms with your sexuality. Heavy stuff for a show about a Show Choir, but we’ve seen this before with Glee (a lot) and I usually eat up the emotional episodes. Last night’s wasn’t as hard hitting as some have been (hard to believe I know), but to me, the one thing missing was amazing music. There were some great numbers, don’t get me wrong. But most songs were New Directions performing at Prom and I think they could have gone more top 40 with it. All that said, there were some amazing moments in this episode, and I think Chris Colfer probably earned his Emmy nomination again. There was also an amazing scene between Rachel and Quinn that perhaps will develop into something interesting.

Last night’s episode of Glee was dedicated to the Fleetwood Mac album “Rumours.” I enjoy some Fleetwood Mac music, so I was intrigued to see what the episode would bring. There was a ton story-wise: Will/Emma developments, Quinn/Finn developments and even some Santana/Brittany developments. “Rumours” focused on just that — rumors and how they affect people. The episode also focused on the meaning behind the album — relationships, fights, positive/negative energy and dreams. A lot of big things for one hour. I will say that I could have dealt with songs outside the album, but overall, it was a very enjoyable episode.

Okay, Glee, seriously, you are making me love you all over again. We’ve had our ups and downs but any episode that has Gwyneth Paltrow is almost guaranteed to be fantastic. Haters can hate but Gwyneth can sing. And dance. And just all around be amazing. “Sexy” tackled some important issues — celibacy, sexually active (and undereducated) teenagers, gay sex, and coming out. I realize that some television shows can feel like “on a very special episode of…” but Glee manages to intertwine important issues with amazing music and hilarious dialogue so it doesn’t feel super preachy. And the amazing music was nothing short of amazing in this episode. Gwyneth sang a bunch of times, there was a Darren Criss number and no songs that I was really not keen on.

Thanks to last night’s episode of Glee, I now have “Blame It On The Alcohol” stuck in my head. Not to mention some Ke (dollar sign) ha. There was a lot of criticism of this episode, but honestly, I found it a lot better and less disappointing than last week’s. I wasn’t a huge fan of what went on with Schue and Beiste (obviously more on that later) but I was so happy Emma was back (come on, I started to doubt she might ever be back!) and there were some knockout-listen-to-on-my-iPod-on-repeat performances.

I was so impressed with last week’s episode of Glee that I was hoping “Comeback” would represent just that, a comeback of sorts. Not that it was ever bad — because even at its lowest lows, I still find joy in Glee. But I was loving the direction they were going in. I didn’t love “Comeback” as much as “Silly Love Songs,” but I thought it was pretty good. I was glad to see the Glee kids get a starring role while also sharing the spotlight with hilarious Sue. And seriously, Chord Overstreet made me kind of like a Justin Bieber song, and that’s truly saying a lot.
