Best TV of 2012

December 24th, 2012

tv2012

This year, The TV Chick was lucky enough to have some great writers as part of the team. So instead of just my top TV of 2012 list, Sarah is weighing in with her choices as well. 2012 has had a ton of fantastic television — from our favorite British couple finally tying the knot in Downton, to an engagement in Pawnee and my favorite terrorist and yours (Brody, of course) coming full circle. It’s safe to say that 2012 will go down as a year to remember in television and it was hard to choose shows for my list!

Sarah’s Snap Shots: Jill Flint Edition

October 29th, 2012

Happy_Endings_Season_3_Poster-e1350500415505

Jill Flint is one of my favorite actresses and most people have no clue who she is…except for the random old people like my mother who love Royal Pains and could probably identify her on sight but still not know her name. Mark my words, Jill Flint is going to be a star one day*. If you aren’t too familiar with her work, go check out her IDMB. Do some googling, YouTube-ing even. If you watch a show that’s shot in New York, there’s a very good chance that Jill Flint has appeared at one point. As we creep closer to pilot season, I can only hope that this is the year that someone finally casts her as the lead of her own show. Until then, I’m cool with her sticking around on The Good Wife.

*Star of her own TV show. I make no predictions about the success or failure of her movie career. Her turn as a receptionist in The Amazing Spider-Man probably didn’t do much to further that aspect of her career.

Best Television of 2011

Best of 2011

It’s just about 2012, so it’s time for The TV Chick to reflect on the Best Television of 2011. And there was some amazing TV. Just when I thought I wouldn’t adopt a ton of new shows, a handful came along that just completely sucked me in. I was enthralled with a red sharpie and a plan, engrossed in the crazy world of a CIA agent and a rescued prisoner of war, laughed at the lovable antics and wonderful relationships in Pawnee, taken back to my awkward high school years, and rooted for an insane hybrid vamp-wolf who had no friends. Oh, and that only scratches the surface. I decided that instead of just a Top 10 list, I’d use fun categories. Make sure you weigh in with your favorites too!

ADVANCE REVIEW: Parks and Recreation “Citizen Knope” & Video Preview

December 8th, 2011

Parks and Recreation

So, I was pretty sure that Parks and Recreation couldn’t get any better. The last couple of episodes have been amazing. First, with Ben and Leslie finally getting back together. And then, the hilarious ethics trial that involved Leslie and Ben officially declaring their love for one another. I still have both of those episodes on my DVR. Tonight’s episode is even better. Seriously. It made me cry and well, that’s a hard feat for any comedy.

ADVANCE REVIEW: Parks and Recreation “Meet ‘n Greet”

October 27th, 2011

HalloweenBenAndy

This week has been all about Halloween episodes from some of my favorite comedies. Happy Endings had a great one last night and tonight is another one of my favorite Halloween episodes from Parks and Recreation (one of my favorite comedies on TV right now). “Meet ‘n Greet” and it focuses on Leslie’s campaign for City Council and Andy and April’s Halloween Party. Leslie decides to hold a meet and greet for small business owners to get them to vote for her. Of course, Tom’s hilarious company “Entertainment 720″ takes over the entire thing (think: rugs with Aziz Ansari’s face on them!) There’s also an absolutely hilarious scene that involves a mobile hot tub, but I don’t want to spoil too much. Just prepare to laugh a ton. But even though Tom takes over, Leslie isn’t one to back down. She wants to win the voters over in order to win the election.

ADVANCE REVIEW: Parks and Recreation Season 3 Premiere “Go Big Or Go Home”

January 20th, 2011

I have been waiting for the return of Parks and Recreation for quite some time. While the first six-episode season might not have been the best, in the second season, the show really found its voice. Parks & Rec can go toe to toe with any great comedy on TV right now. So when NBC made the decision to delay the 3rd season premiere, I was a bit shocked. The ratings were not amazing, but it had ended on such a high note. Whatever the case may be, Parks & Rec is back for a 16 episode third season and I am ridiculously excited about it. “Go Big or Go Home” starts with the Parks Department of Pawnee still shut down from the budget crisis. This doesn’t stop Leslie Knope (played by the hilarious Amy Poehler) however, from planning a high-cost, risky Harvest Festival. But good news! Knope appropriately declares “We’re back!” and the cast of characters leave whatever they are hilariously doing while unemployed to return to the Parks Department.

Best TV of 2010

December 28th, 2010

Vintage_TV_by_ro_stock

As the year comes to a close, I thought it would be a nice time to highlight what I have loved on TV this year. Because this year encapsulates more than a season of TV (and because I watch a ton of TV) there’s a lot that I loved this year. There are a couple of new shows, some old favorites, and some that may not be around anymore (or may not be on for much of 2011). Feel free to weigh in with your choices, and let me know if you think I left any off my list! This list is in no particular order.

Best TV Of The Year: 2009

December 24th, 2009

As opposed to my Best of the Decade list which contained moments and episodes from the decade, this list will be less extensive because I didn’t want to limit myself to 5 best shows of 09. Keep in mind, this is in no particular order!

1.  Parks and Recreation: I did not enjoy this show in its first season. It was always all about “the pit” and getting rid of the pit. I adore Amy Poehler, but her role seemed a bit too Michael Scott-esque to me. However, whatever happened during the off-season was fantastic. Season two has been hilarious. The pit has taken a secondary role, and each character has had a chance to develop and grow. I didn’t care for Andy in the first season, but he has become one of my favorites. I think this show deserves a ton of recognition for really stepping up its game. It is a show I look forward to every week.

2. Lost: This past season has been phenomenal. Time changing, Dharma goodness, Hurley’s hilarious questions…it’s all been great. The creators are brilliant, and I have faith that they know exactly what they are doing and that the series finale is going to blow our minds.

3. How I Met Your Mother: This year has had such great episodes as The Playbook and The Front Porch (I will never forget how hard I laughed at suitjamas). While this show can have its up and downs, every episode makes me happy. And any excuse to watch Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) wax poetic about his “bro code” and “lemon laws” is great in my opinion.

4. The Office: Season 5 started off (in ’08) with the Jim and Pam proposal, and ended on a pregnancy. And season 6 had one of the best episodes of The Office ever with the Jim/Pam wedding. It was perfect in so many ways–hilarious but also showed us what we have been wanting for 6 years. I may have watched the boat scene upwards of 10 times. The show is at its best truly brilliant, and it has been a great season thus far. I can’t wait to see more.

5. Party Down: This show on Starz Network has garnered quite a following for itself. Created by Rob Thomas (of Veronica Mars fame) it stars many of his VM colleagues, and is truly fantastic. It is a hilarious and wonderful portrayal of a catering company in Los Angeles, and its employees who clearly want to be more than just cater waiters. It returns for a 2nd season in 2010, where Kristen Bell will be back, and Megan Mullally joins the cast. This is a show you must see! Catch up with it on DVD before season 2 begins.
